This is going to be an impressive barrel! I wish I could find them that big in the wild. I like to imagine the scene of the rift that they eventually made home. A whole sea of lava the size of lake superior. It's hard to picture so much magma pouring out of the earth, repeatedly, for such a long period to create so many layers, hundreds of meters thick, ripe with amygdules. Canadian Shield agates are pretty incredible especially considering how old they are. There are a few more big ones in the mail. I’ll probably start them next cleanout.

Nobody has talked me out of starting this batch. I keep looking at the big nodules and wondering if I’m doing the right thing. Should I start a new thread, if so, where? I could try to keep track of weights and stuff. I’d like to keep the batch to all LSAs. Here are the bigger ones, (1/2 - 3 oz). It’s a good mix of lakers with few quartzy zones. Here they are with 30 or so pounds of small LSAs for filler and for replacement.

LOL If you said you were going to tumble your left-over pumpkin pie from Thanksgiving, we would have all been goading you into it! LOL EDIT - As far as starting a new thread...you could or could keep updating the thread title on this one with the date when new stuff is added. Of course I'd love to see the numbers when it came to the tumble, but I know that can be a lot of work...both to track, as well as posting it all. So, if you do, I'll say thank you in advance!!

I agree with previous posters that you should continue updating this thread. I would change the title somehow whenever you do so all of us, eager for the progress photos, will know to check back in on it!
And seriously? You have BUCKETS of LSA’s? 😂

These look very nice! I have some that I acquired several years ago but they are much smaller and have lots of pits on them. Good luck with your project!

Nobody has talked me out of starting this batch. I keep looking at the big nodules and wondering if I’m doing the right thing. all i know is if i keep drooling like this i'll die of dehydration. LOL. That’s why I haven’t started them yet. I keep going back for one more look. I always try to keep some small Lakers around for filler. They beat ceramic media. A lot of them turn out really attractive. Nobody has talked me out of starting this batch. I keep looking at the big nodules and wondering if I’m doing the right thing. I should have known. You guys are a bunch of enablers. I wonder if pumpkin pie would make a good thickener. This is going to be a fun batch. I’ll keep posting here but will change the thread title. I’ll try to keep track of weights and such but I always tend to loose interest in that pretty quick. I laughed out loud when I saw the $20 !!! You are really upping your game and getting hoity-toity now !!! Next I'll expect to see a glass of champagne in the background... I'm enjoying seeing your progress. This thread seem fine. LOL. I had to dig deep for a twenty but I figured this batch deserved it. Hopefully it will keep deserving better size references. I would change the title somehow whenever you do so all of us, eager for the progress photos, will know to check back in on it! And seriously? You have BUCKETS of LSA’s? 😂 Will do. I kind of thought updating the title and date would work best. I’ve been buying small lakers for years. At one time Kingsley North had them for around $4 / lb. Those days are long gone but I still try to keep a bucket available. Those small agates work really well for improving tumbler efficiency. These look very nice! I I have some that I acquired several years ago but they are much smaller and have lots of pits on them. Good luck with your project! Thanks. I’ll post pictures of their progress here. Over the years, I’ve tumbled a lot of different agates. LSAs are among my favorite.

The standard reply would be “We’re halfway there”. Every time when I checked the price of LSA on ebay or etsy I was like I’m trying not to think about that. I’ve wanted to try a full barrel of LSAs for a long time. If I were to guess, I’d put this barrel at $30-$40 / lb. I could figure it out closer but I’m not sure I want to know.

Just got another pound or so of very oily LSAs. That ought to keep the barrel going for another week.
