When I was talking to the guy from Cornwell he said there is no size difference between the 2 which I was all BS if there isn't. The size was the first thing that caught my attention but who knows, I could be wrong I'm calling BS...super big time BS! I've seen enough Bald Eagles around here...and the few Golden Eagles I've seen were NO doubt far larger than the Bald Eagles. Maybe we just have dwarf Bald Eagles around here! He was quite the pompous donkey. I've seen a lot of balds and I've never seen one that stood as large as the one we saw. They migrate through here starting in October and winter down in Southern MN along the Mississippi. One of these days I need to make a trip down there to see them We've decided that it's our unofficial sighting.

Update on Butch (yep, I named him)
Appears he was indeed hit by a vehicle. He is suffering from head tremors and has been having a hard time. He did eat today so they are hopeful he will fully recover

It managed to fly over the 8-ft chain link fence to escape a dog attacking it. My gf decided it was her chicken and named it venom š. We had it for about a month. Then the neighbor spotted it and came back over and took it. Gf wasnāt too happy about it.

geoff59 Those are beautiful photos! I absolutely love owls. That third screech owl photo is adorable. One of these days I'm going to see a snowy owl in the wild. My neighbor moved to back to Maine a little over a month ago. I have an open invitation to visit. Maybe I'll be able to spot one there. He's in Calaise (where that mass murder was ).

I once was pooped on by a seagull at the Jersey shore, and an unknown bird species pooped through the cracks of my helmet as I bicycled across the Golden Gate bridge.
This is just about the extent of my bird expertise.

It's been 20 years since my last achievement. I think I've lost my touch!

We had Golden Eagles in Montana. I saw several when I lived there. The bald eagles are definitely smaller. I also had an interesting experience with a snowy owl when I first moved up to Montana. I got a wild hair in early spring to go to Crystal Park. It was way to early and the area wasn't open yet, guess I should have checked that before I drove 3 hours to get there but I was so excited to go that I didn't even think about that, silly me. There was still some snow on the ground, but I was determined to at least look around for crystals, so I parked and got out to wander around. As I was walking, I heard this sound I'd never heard, kinda like a whoosh noise, and then out of the corner of my eye, I saw a huge white bird swooping down towards me. I ducked just in time as the enormous snowy owl flew right over my head. Scared the living crap out of me. I ran back to my truck, slipping and sliding on the snow. It was probably quite the show, so fortunately, no one was around to see it. I was glad I had left my dog in the truck because she was small enough to make a good meal for that huge owl. Needless to say, I didn't find any crystals, and I didn't stick around after the encounter. Man, that owl came out of nowhere and was so quiet it was amazing. I think all I heard was the wind from its wings as it flew over me, and then it disappeared into the woods again. I did get a real close look at that massive and beautiful owl but didn't fully appreciate it until I was back in my truck, and my heart started beating more regularly..lol. An don't even get me started about the snowshoe hare that ran out of a bush and scared the hell out of me on another springtime rock trip. Geez, those bunnies are huge with even bigger feet. š³ Wish I had pictures to prove they were real but frankly I was too busy running for the truck to take photos.

I could be wrong and it's a young female bald as they are quite larger than the males, but there was an adult bald in the same field and this one was way bigger
