I was heading home to go let the girls out before heading to the SSN office to change my name . I love taking this road when I have a little extra time to get home, because I lallygag and this particular road is full of wildlife I saw this juvenile in the ditch and most times if they are on the ground it's because they are scavenging on something so I looked for what it was feeding on and didn't see anything and as I got closer it didn't fly away, which is also unusual. When I got alongside it, I noticed it was looking a little stressed. I pulled over, got out and it was very apparent it was not well. I called the wildlife rescue that is in another town close by, kept the eagle from going into the road and within 20 minutes she was there . We got it secured in a kennel and off she went
Prelim report was physical exam was normal and blood work was pending.

That close to a road, could’ve possible been hit by a vehicle as well. Bless your heart. ♥️ I am glad you have a rehab facility nearby as well! I well remember when an eagle seen anywhere around here would have literally made the news. Their recovery from the brink is extraordinary.

Oh no. I’m glad you saw her and stopped. When I see wildlife that’s been hit I always figure it was some idiot not paying attention which just makes me instantly mad. Granted, I know accidents happen and sometimes they run into the road and even the most attentive driver can hit them, but I just naturally feel it was someone not paying attention. I’m glad you were and got her some help and I’m also impressed they could send someone so quickly. The fact that she didn’t run (fly) from two humans is suspect. Hope the wildlife lady can help her.🤞🤞
I used to live on an island in the Puget Sound and was awakened every morning by a family of eagles in the trees above my house. It was really pretty cool. (Except for the time one swooped down and tried to grab my cat off the 2nd story deck rail. I was out there like a momma bear right quick!)

Good on ya Ali! I'm glad to hear Wildlife Rescue was able to get out there so quickly! - From what you're describing, it sounds to me like it may have gotten hit by a car. I hope it wasn't poisoning. If so, someone's in serious trouble!

That's great that you were there and took the time. I've rescued red tail hawks around here but both times they had apparently fallen from the nest. The last time was just about 1/2 mile from my house. I think I got real lucky catching the one that could fly a bit because I only had a blanket and a laundry basket! I took those two home then called the raptor rescue in the next town and made arrangements to drop them off. We've got some cool pics when they escaped from the laundry basket and one was sitting on our table lamp.

I geek out over raptors. We are pretty lucky here to have a good population of Balds, Ospreys, hawks, falcons and owls. I still have a bucket list of raptors I haven't seen such as the snowy owl and a verified sighting of a Golden. I say verified because I believe Nate and I recently saw one, but the Cornell Lab of Ornithology doesn't agree with me [yep, I'm a bird nerd) This is my 1st encounter with an injured bald and I was really geeking out at being so close to it.

Several years ago I was driving home after working one day in the northern middle area of the state. Came around the corner on a gravel road, and right on the side of the road was a Golden Eagle. I swear from a distance it looked like it's head would've been even with my truck window. It was SO massive!! I've only seen a handful of Golden Eagles over the years...and each time I'm so shocked at the sheer size of them. Bald Eagles are big...but become dwarfed when compared to the Goldens I've seen. Definitely awe-inspiring!

When I was talking to the guy from Cornwell he said there is no size difference between the 2 which I was all BS if there isn't. The size was the first thing that caught my attention but who knows, I could be wrong

We have some bald eagles at the nearby reservoirs (45 mins away) but it's still kind of a big deal to spot one. I did see a golden up there once on a fishing trip. A lot more ospreys in the area than eagles. Those are seriously large! On our last Florida trip in April we saw an osprey harassing a bald eagle in a tree. The osprey's were nesting. We saw a couple of babies in nests.

I once saw an osprey dive down from way up high and snatch a fish out of a lake without any effort at all. He lifted back up high and carried him off into the sunset. He had his claws positioned front and back and the fish facing forward, the direction the osprey flew. Made sense really, more aerodynamic. I’ve always wondered what that poor(lucky?) trout was thinking as he got the view of a lifetime in his final moments!🤓

I'm a bird geek too! I saw a golden at Denali in Alaska, but I didn't get a real good look because it was flying. It was HUGE though. We don't have a ton of raptors around here, but we have enough to keep me happy. Of course, the Coopers nesting by us every year really make me happy. No ospreys and no snowy owls here, either. I'd love to see a snowy owl in person. We do have Great Horned Owls around, though. I've seen them in our trees and hear them hooting at night on occasion.

I've always loved owls. Amazing birds! I was shocked though the first time I saw what they look like under their feathers.

The size was the first thing that caught my attention but who knows, I could be wrong I'm calling BS...super big time BS! I've seen enough Bald Eagles around here...and the few Golden Eagles I've seen were NO doubt far larger than the Bald Eagles. Maybe we just have dwarf Bald Eagles around here!
