Hey all, here’s my first batch ever of tumbled stones. Years ago, my dad got heavy into buying all sorts of rock tumbling stuff and from what I remember, we did run the tumblers some but never finished a batch. This batch was actually in one of the drums, but never completed.
I restarted the batch with 60/90, 220, 400/600, then polish. I guess those are the normal steps, though honestly I didnt do much for research. Each step was changed out exactly a week apart.
As for what the material is, I don’t know. I would guess some type of Chert/jasper. Originally I wanted to make marbles from this material but it proved to be extremely difficult if not impossible due to how to breaks apart easily. I made a single marble from the reddish material, though it’s no good for playing.
Seems I can’t upload photos to the first post so bear with me a moment

Unfortunately I have followed this to the letter. I have even pulled it up in two tabs on two monitors to make sure I select everything right. I am uploading from a cell phone so maybe that’s the issue. I’ll have to try it again. I won’t rule out I’m just being stupid but sure am not having any luck.

All of these pieces are from Roane County Tennessee and are from a piece of property my family has. It would be (if you want to map it) in an area of Kingston Tennessee called “Midway” close to “Ten Mile”. The woods here are filled with this stuff, and the stream beds are as well. Nowhere I’ve been in Tennessee have I ever seen stream beds so colorful. Many streams look like aquarium gravel with all the colors. Out this way I never really find anything that isn’t filled with cracks or rightly packed layers that split apart. Anything transparent is rare as well.

in the quarries in the Sparta Area there is what is called Calfkiller Agate. I have seen some of that is real solid.

That’s something I may have to look into for some marbles. I used to work and live in Rock Island State Park and don’t remember seeing much for interesting geology. It seems hard to find a good place or a community out this way.

The knoxville rock club or there are two in the nashville area that might know.
