Velodromed and I had a nice rock exchange at the end of last year. I finally got a few Texas rocks in the tumbler this week! we sure did! And I love your gorgeous Oregon hat. My wife likes to call them ‘sun agates’. a couple of them I simply put through the vibratory to keep their natural shape. They’re so beautiful. I also remember what you said about sometimes the color only goes so deep. And I’m trying to tumble a couple, very carefully. i’ll get some pictures posted here in the next few days or so. They are definitely fantastic additions to our collection here. Hope the rocks I sent are doing you good as well!

This is so cool! And I loved reading this thread 💜 such a great way to start my day! I'm in Chicago, right next to a rock beach, but there's a distinct lack of rock that isn't solid grey all the way through (a few exceptions though, that I'll be posting in the pics section). We're hoping to take some rockhounding trips when it's warmer, into Wisconsin and Michigan, and may consider a move in several years (disability-pending 🙃) to a more rock friendly location. Anyway, again I just loved reading this thread this morning. Glad y'all are doing this! Thanks! I appreciate this . Sounds like you have a basalt beach on your hands lol. Bet there’s some nice ones there, though, as you indicated. Looking forward to seeing pictures!

Here are some rocks I got from #velodromed via a trade. The whole batch I did is in the thread below: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/post/1310233/threadBanded chert the "cracks" you see are healed (totally smooth) I didn't grind them out because the banding was starting to fade and I was afraid I'd grind it out. Wow! This banded chert piece is absolutely absolutely amazing! Rarely do I find them with that fine of banding. I actually did yesterday, it’s a bit smaller, but I’m really looking forward to to tumbling it. And yes, you have to be careful because often these features are on the surface. Some of them have it through and through but many don’t. Yes, I got the Prairie agates are from Jason. He sent me 20 pounds or so, and I’ve enjoyed including them in most, if not all, of the boxes I exchange. I’m running low though, so won’t be able to much longer.

I am not a tumbler, but I love the RTH sharing of this thread. This is the spirit of RTH! Sorry, I am 88 years old, no longer able to go out in the hills, have given away most of my rocks, (to the local school) crosb.proboards.com/post/2753/threadI do enjoy sharing what I have learned about my state. We have had a lot of erosion here, and I think I have figured out why and when. Ground level used to be the mesa tops! Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

I really like what is going on with this thread also. Will try to select some stuff here in the next week or so and see if anyone wants to trade.

I’m always down for a small flat rate box exchange if you want! I live in Sonoma County in California and I collect a lot of nice, colorful beach rocks that tumble up nicely! If you’re interested in those let me know! 😁

This is great! I had no idea so many would enjoy this. Keep it up y’all! I would love to see more people exchanging rocks like this. I’m real limited in what I can do the last couple years. Severe nerve damage, way too many injuries and surgeries Ive never recovered from…so only take on one exchange every month or two. So I will love seeing other people exchange rocks and talk about it here

I bet there’s somebody on here that would love to see rocks from where you’re at… that’s how I would tend to find people to exchange with. First, I would enjoy somebody’s personality on the site. Second, they would show rocks from their area that would blow my mind so I’d reach out. The cool thing is, everyone that I’ve reached out to has exchanged with me. So don’t be shy. If you see someone that’s interesting and has interesting rocks, reach out.

Oh no! There is no bottom to that rabbit hooooooooole! I am in northwest Missouri. Most of the interesting stuff (red, brown, black jasper, quartz, quartzite, and a few agates and pet wood) I find here is glacial from up north somewhere (Minnesota and probably Canada). I also have a bag of what I call "good" rocks. Not sure what they are, probably some sort of combination of slightly translucent chert, jasper and chalcedony (they polish really well but tend to be smaller). There is also some "banded" chert (local) that can be interesting (not as tight of bands as you see in Michigan and other parts of the country and most of it has cracks but polishes well). Also make a lot of trips back to home state of Michigan but I think I have tumbled most of what I have collected from there at the moment. But have a lot of Petoskey stones, Charlevoix stones and some horn and chain coral (generally not for tumbling). I will try to get some pics together in next couple days and get back with those that have expressed interest.

It leads down forever into the foggy goodness. You have some nice stuff there! I’m sure someone will be interested. I know I’ll be in a 6-8 weeks or so, when I’m feeling better and don’t have my hands full.

@hplcman After 9 days in 36 SiC these two are looking real nice! The red one did turn out to be a nice mossy agate, so keep your eyes open on the RR tracks for the red ones! They are looking great. What is the yellow one? Always looking for yellow rocks.

It may be a Jasper of sorts with mica filled fractures…but that’s just me guessing. It’s a solid rock though that’s tumbling very well and should take a good polish.

That’s very interesting so please, share your thoughts. Thats real cool that you shared your collection with local schools. It’s a damn good idea and makes me wonder if my 10 year olds school would like interesting rocks…

See below, his ‘username’ is actually slightly different from his forum name. so use his ‘username’, (holcman)to contact him. make sure to put the @ sign in front also. You will see his name magically change when you do lol.

But I tried every which way last night (including the hplcman and again this morning and it wouldn't work. However I finally got a message to go (I think, at least it showed up in my outbox) by clicking on the profile as you suggested and then clicking on send message on that page. Thanks for the help.

The yellow one is down right awesome, so hopefully you’ll find more of those on the beach. Holy Cow!! Those are looking super impressive! I'm heading to the train tracks behind my work today to look for more of those red rocks! I think that one is going to be sweet when it's done! And that yellow one! I have been back to the beach a couple times since I sent that to you and I'm starting to think finding that will be one of those 'once in a lifetime' experiences. Even if I never find another one like it, I know I sent it to the right person. Thanks for the update! I'm trying to clear out a barrel on my QT-66 and will be starting in on the rocks you sent me. I'm really excited about some of them in there!

Haha! When I first set up my account I included a typo in my username (supposed to be 'hplcman' but typed it in 'holcman'). I tried to change it after my account was set up and verified, but no luck. Regardless, I got both your messages and will PM you some pictures of what I typically collect here and we can set up an exchange! Thanks for reaching out, and I'm really excited for this!

Honestly everyone, I am blown away by the response to this post. It makes me feel good knowing that others appreciate what I’ve done. I really hope that people post on here that they’re looking for Rock, even if you don’t have something to exchange. If somebody doesn’t ultimately step up, I will. As long as you don’t mind Texas rock, I have tons of it. Many thanks everyone and let’s keep this thread going. It’s a real feel good thing.
