Hello friends! I'll get in on this one. I made the 3.5 hr drive to "The Gem Shop" in Cedarburg WI to dig through their basement for rough and I wasn't disappointed (maybe my wallet). One of the rocks I bought was a 4lb chunk of this crazy lace. This cab turned out especially nice and I just so happened to take a pic of the slab before cutting! Here we go! Love the look of it!

Okay...I'm getting this one in on time...well...actually finished it period! LOL Crazy Lace Agate...had to dig DEEP for this one! LOL I'm about 87.9% certain that the specific variety of Mex Lace here is Laguna lace, from the same area as the original CL but a different mine. But I could be wrong. Definitely a nice one. Lots of nice ones here, still hoping to participate...

After the concern last month that the Contest was in trouble I decided to enter this month to support it arafter a very long absence. I actually cut two cabs and it was tough to decide which one to go with. There are some really great entries so far and I'm sure more are on the way. I finally decided on this Brazilian agate. I cut the slab several years ago and always wanted to do something with it. This challenge seemed "right," so here goes.

Well I managed to get downstairs last night and work on my cab, only to have the polish highlight a crack in the upper part and the agate started to 'layer' - I'm not sure on the correct terminology, but it looks like crap...sooooo I've started all over. I am actually a bit more hopeful for the new rock and should have more chances to finish it - it's shaped, just need to dome and polish. This particular stone was Australian Crazy Lace - the specimen is phenomenal with a large crystal druzy section and the beautiful yellow - but I think I'll keep the remainder of it as a specimen. I do have one other preform, but it's got a bit of matrix and not sure it'll do any better....Bummer, but such is life.

Not passing muster for me - I'm hopeful the next will be way better.

We’ll see if I enter or not. Throwing some stuff out there as slab place holders.
