This is quite the trip you have planned! I'm envious and looking forward to seeing what you two find! Should be nice to put so many faces to forum names, as well. Thanks, we are both excited to get started. I can't thank enough all of the "posters" through the years that have supplied me with countless hours of reading and understanding of geology and Lapidary it's absolutely amazing the dynamics of it all. So to be able to put a face to some of them will be great.

Whew! Stormy and EXTRA windy coming across Missouri and Kansas, even by their standards. Made it to Junction City Kansas. Now for some Mexican food for dinner and a good sleep.

Have a great trip and I hope you find lots of good keepers. Leave the leaverite. I'm really happy for you that your daughter wants to share your adventure.

Sound advice on the Leaverite, I'm hoping to make good choices. Does anyone speak Rattlesnake? How do you say I'd like to gather that pretty Jasper next to you would you mind slithering slightly to the right please?

I see at least 1 rattler per hunting season, usually crossing a road. Last year 2 rattlers, a king snake, a couple gopher snakes, 2 desert tortoises, and numerous lizards and horned toads. And that’s just the reptiles!

I see rattlers periodically. Normally closer to water. They don’t bother me, and I’ve actually been known to catch them. Things with rattlers is when you get close enough 9 times out of 10 they will rattle. Best thing to do is stop, start looking around and see if you can identify where it’s at. I have come across some where I damn near stepped on them and they never rattled. With that though… from my experience, they normally stay coiled up under logs, brush, etc… best times to spot them is after the sun comes up. They come out to warm up, and that’s when you will usually see them in the open. Avoid tall grass and brush, that’s how you get bit.

Well last night in Yellowcat. Absolutely awesome camp site. Snow capped mountains in the distance, just to the right and lower stunning canyon back side of Arches NP. To top it off a short stroll from camp is a hill that is absolutely covered by agate. Big one's, medium one's and tiny ones. I left tons up there, so come get some. Three LFRB to send home of great stuff ( that's after I lightened the load) leaving some around camp for anyone who wants it:) Getting a room tomorrow and then off to Goblin Valley and Hanksville. I update with new reports as we go. No snakes today just a few lizards and an Eagle early this morning.

Well, not quite as much fun today. Driving out of Yellowcat tire pressure light came on so I limped out to I70 and hopped out to check the tires. Passenger rear was the culprit so I started to get the jack out and free the little donut spare from under the van when I noticed the front passenger tire was also flat. I managed to get the donut on the back and luckily I brought a small battery powered compressor with me so was able to limp into Thompson Springs where I was fortunate enough to buy some fix-a-flat and so far repair the hole. We limped in to Green River and got a room until Monday due to no tire sales/repair shops being open, even in Moab. Sooo...A/C and TV for awhile. On a rockhounding note I did find a cool small jasper as we walked to Tamarisk resteraunt and enjoyed some delicious Navajo fry bread and coffee. Fingers crossed we get back on track Monday.

You're leaving civilization after Green River. If you get in a bind near Hanksville you can get help with a little repair shop on the North end of town called Rabbit Brush Service 970-424-4552 Kathy at Rockin Riddle rock shop on the West end of town is a good resource for information too, and don't forget to snag a Stans burger on the South end of town.

Looked up Stan's and showed my daughter the pics, we are both looking forward to it. Onion rings look delicious. What's your favorite style Stan's burger?

What a bummer!! Fingers crossed you can get the flats fixed with no more problems! There is a repair shop here that has great reviews so hopefully get a patch job or new if necessary.
