I'm getting to the bottom of the barrel on my preforms and needed to refresh them. So, I spent a few hours with my new sintered blade on my trim saw. What a difference!!! I pulled out some of the good stuff. Haven't really been cabbing much of it lately. You can't tell by the picture, but there's 3 really nice OJ, pietersite, Marra Mamba, gemmy amy sage, wingate, gaspeite, josephine's crown, nellite, guadalupe and lots of other goodies including the new galaxy rhyolite (5th in from the right). You can enlarge this by opening in a new tab... I think. Just in case, you want a better look. I spent half the day using the old crimped blades. I think you can tell those. I don't get crazy trying to perfectly cut preforms. My sintered 60 does a good job.
I'm so excited that the better weather is here. DH took time off to work on his Spring honey do list, so I won't get to cab for a few days... bummer. I really want to cut some OJ.

Show of!! LOL! You must do like my son does and have a million folders for just the right meme. Years ago my ex-wife texted me, asking me something...I texted back to her "Google is your friend!" Thirty-minutes later she texted me back and said she had...but Googling "your friend" didn't get her any kind of answer!! *I swear that is a TRUE story! LOL

These are beautiful materials ( ) . What is the one on the top-left corner? Thanks! Sonoran Dendritic Rhyolite. That slab was to die for and that's probably the sweet spot.

When I get a new slab, I layout and trim preforms. Some I grind and some I put away for later. I have hundreds waiting to grind.

Is that lt blue on the bottom larimar ?
And what is the blue-green one in the bottom corner and third from the left ?

Gorgeous preforms, nice work. Could you possibly do a before and after photo of all of them in the same order? I like them as they are in the preform stage. I have a small piece of the galaxy rhyolite that I thought was super nice, but I never knew what it was called. Thanks for sharing.

Wow!!! There are so many awesome ones there! I see a couple that would be great for the April cab contest, too!

I used to do that, but I found I was wasting blade life on ones I knew I would never cab. Even at that, I have a lot of preforms, too. Every Spring, I go through and weed them out.

Thanks Patty, yes a busy day, but a good kind of busy.
Yes, larimar. I have NEVER been successful cabbing it... we'll see. Pretty sure the green ones are gem chrysocolla- I think there gem silica in them. They look much more blue wet and in person.

BEAUTIFUL! I love the colorful ones. I'm a big fan, but I am already noticing a decline in quality.
I can try to do something similar. Maybe put the preform pic next to the cabbed one as I finish them. I don't cab as often as I'd like to, so I don't know when I will get them all done.

I don't mind updating the image with the names. I can prolly do that later on. Wow!!! There are so many awesome ones there! I see a couple that would be great for the April cab contest, too! Q Thanks! I was thinking of one in particular, but I couldn't find the picture of the slab. I have a file with images of just about everything I have ever purchased. I couldn't find the right image. Besides, as a mod I don't usually enter and I try to stay neutral. Plus, the contest is Tommy's domain.
