Can't wait to see these becoming cabs! Thanks! I'll be working on it. An amazing and lovely task ahead of you! There are some real beauties in that group. Makes me a bit jealous! Thanks, Rick! You've made me jealous a more than a few times, so we're even. Beautiful, can't wait to see the finished products! I wish I could wave a magic wand and have them finished... but I enjoy the process.

so much lovely in that one image!! Wow. What is the very first preform? Looks like a cherry blossom branch. Gorgeous. Can't wait to see these done.

Thank you! I hope to do them right. That stone is a Sonoran Dendritic Rhyolite from a super nice slab. That's the best of it, but the rest is nice, too. I hated to cut it.

What a fantastic set of preforms. I’m looking forward to seeing them finished. Lots of killer lace in there but I really like the 3 OJs, the chrysoprase and the Larimar.
Thanks for showing.

When I get a new slab, I layout and trim preforms. Some I grind and some I put away for later. I have hundreds waiting to grind. I used to do that, but I found I was wasting blade life on ones I knew I would never cab. Even at that, I have a lot of preforms, too. Every Spring, I go through and weed them out. I agree. I make a lot more cabs than I sell. I lay out only cabs made from great material like Guadalupe, OJ or Blue Mountain with a great pattern. When I sell a cab from the slab, I will grind the replacement. When the pattern is not interesting it becomes a scrap.

Wow it is so nice of you to label them! These are top-notch representations of the materials.

Wow it is so nice of you to label them! These are top-notch representations of the materials. Thank you! Only one is a fairly good example of wingate. Granted they look better in person and will make decent cabs, but I have a slab that is practically a text book example and I just can't cut it ... yet.

I've got my fingers crossed on the larimar. I've never managed to finish a cab, they all just come apart. But, it's a nice one if I can finish it.

Larimar is a type of pectolite. That piece looks hard. That chrysoprase is really going to glow. That is definitely some high grade OJ.

The OJ was a lucky buy. Real cheap because the slabs were pretty ugly, but I saw a couple nice cabs. You know me and OJ.
I can't add an an image in reply, so I'll follow with a pic of the slabs.

Others could add to it - it would be a great resource.

Some absolutely beautiful preforms. Should make some stunning cabs. I've had pretty good luck with the Larimar once I stayed off the course wheel. I do all the shaping starting with 220. Just too much vibration from the 80. Good luck! That's a beautiful piece.

But, yeah, I am resolved to start on the 220- maybe even the 220 soft, but it is soooo hard. It's gonna be a slow grind.
