I like the tufts. I can't envision them shorter.

Thanks for the affirmation, ladies! Patty, I haven't named him yet--he is a gift for a friend who loves owls, so I thought I would let her do the honors. However, I'm not opposed to pushy suggestions, if you have any.

Duke Owlington. This is the first owl wrap I've seen that I like. It looks like it could be altered to a pretty cool looking Phoenix too. (I guess a Phoenix would actually be hot!)

susand24224 I think the tufts look good. If you were to ever continue making more of this same guy, it'd be a way to add personality to each piece, with differing tuft lengths, wing shapes and lengths, etc. Some of them could probably look cute while others could look like they had an attitude.

khara, good point! Maybe it's like having a child--after a while you forget how painful child birth is so you do it again (?)

It's certainly anything better than I've thought of. And yes, changing to a Phoenix would be relatively easy.

Patty, if you attempt it, use a sloped stone, but not one with the dome as high as the one I used, if you have a choice. This made it especially difficult to center, and impossible to get the middle two tail feathers even with the others. It really does involve a multitude of skills, largely in the shaping of the circular parts, and it has to be fairly precise. I forgot to say thank you for the tip on the cab Susan. I printed out your comments so I can put it with my tut for when I tackle it.

Well gee, I don't want to rush into anything You're safe now Diane! I finally finished (sort of) and photographed mine. 18-and 30-gauge copper (and a little 20-gauge), with copper beads. This tutorial (by ArtsvilleHandcrafted) required considerable precision and items that I don't think exist in the U.S. Does anyone know where to find 17-gauge wire? or 2.5 mm copper beads? I sure struck out on both. Here it is, with numerous imperfections, but I'm just happy I survived it. Front: (wing span of 3 1/2 inches): and crappy photo of the back, which looks almost like the front: That's fantastic! Love your work. I'd love to do a Zelda-like wrap inspired by this one should I ever happen to come upon some more skills, haha.

iamchris Give it a try--you may surprise yourself! Weaving is easy, just tedious. And thank you!

I was going through some old stuff I made and thought I would share. I needed some inspiration for myself. I do have a plan on my plate, but I don't know if I can pull it off, so I'm keeping my options open.
After I made this, I saw one so similar that I had to tell the artist that it was serendipity and I wasn't stealing her work!
Check out the tool marks!!! This was my first, so it's a little sloppy.
More tool marks. That copper is sure soft. I believe these and the one above are 18g.
a little bit of fused copper.
This is pretty big. It goes on a window like a stained glass thingie. I gave it to my sister in law because she has hummingbirds. It now has a nice patina. The beak is fused, the frame is either fused or soldered. Fused, I think.

Found two more. This was recent for my grandson's SIGNOT. She loves jellyfish. She actually wears it, too. I wasn't thrilled with it. It is what it is.
This is pretty big, but I like it. Just a bug.

I might still have that hummer kicking around. When I worked glassblowing, I made 1000s of hummers. I thought I would never make another! LOL! Thanks!

Tela, I liked all of them, and I particularly like the variety. You have created both caricatures and more "copies" of various creatures. I'm not sure I used the right words here, but some were simple enough without embellishing to allow the viewer to know what they are, while others are more "true" to the actual specimen. As for the jellyfish, I like him/her. The long tentacles would give me pause from a practical standpoint, but if one is going to wear a jellyfish, one must learn to adjust to long tentacles. I went back to pick a favorite, and I couldn't--it would definitely depend upon the mood of the day!

Going through these old ones really gets my creative juices flowing.
