This is going to be a good challenge. Finding small material that's going to really stand out is going to be fun. Time to go back through the slab scraps to see what I didn't expect I'd ever use!

I like BIG cabs and I cannot lie... However, I have an idea that I hope I can get together in the midst of the current crunch to get ready to go north. If not the boring but fun backup slab is already chosen.

Alrighty here's my entry unless I get more time this month. It's definitely a full month 😵💫 This is a Lake Superior Agate that will eventually turn in to a ring. Started with the rough rock and cut through lots of fractures. Final size is about 10mm in the long direction! Nice cut. I too have the same intentions on turning my material into a ring.

OK everyone, this is my entry for the May cab contest. I'm very glad I entered this contest, because I've been wanting to try small cabs forever. It sure opens up the jewelry options. Preform view. It's an agate, that is all I know about it, sorry. Front view Side view

I have my preform successfully cut out, the amount of time I spent on such a small piece, and the stress that came along with it (that’s still not over) has been a real thorn in my side 😂

Working on mine. I'll see when it's finished if I want to enter it. Have a couple of back-up ideas if it doesn't work out.

Great little Lake Superior agatewhisperer !! Really pretty agate dshanpnw !! I love the color. Also really pretty realrockhound ! Is the fracture along the bottom at a diagonal? I wouldn’t have even noticed or realized. But, it sucks that it makes it less stable/not useable for setting.

Lighting isn’t great and pictures a lil blurry, but it’s that faint diagonal line that goes side to side. I got some other types of nice material to cut, but I’m pretty over it at this point.

Sorry about the fracture. I've had a lot of those issues myself over the years. It reminds me of the Mark Twain complaint about "the innate cussedness of inanimate objects."

I inspect all my rough before I cut, but every now an then one eludes me and rears it’s ugly head.

I've not attempted many pieces this small before. Should be a learning experience for sure. But it's the kick in the pants I needed to get out of my comfort zone. Even cutting them out was a trip!
