It just occurred to me I’ll have to go back to my super glue dop method for this one. I switched to wax a while back and love it. I’m always worried the nail polish remover soak might damage the stone somehow and the torch heating method I’m worried about cracking the stone as I have only a small bit of nail protruding from my dop stick handles. But… at the same time this is sort of a blessing in disguise as I just found that I’d left my dop pot on for like… 3 weeks.😬 So now my wax is literally burnt and hard as a rock and I need to figure out how to chip it out and start over with it.🤨

I dopped 4, this one stayed on, the other 3 ... well ...
so is it my best work? I hope not. Will it be my entry? We'll have to see if I get better at dopping! But it was loads of fun, and every step from cutout to photography posed some new and interesting learning opportunities. So not a wasted effort anyway (unless I accidentally swallow it or something.)

Lol. I have a room that stores all my most valuable stuff. Has a few signs that talk about turning off the light. I too still leave it on

I can see myself also starting to ignore a sign once it’s been in place for a while. We just stop seeing what’s normal. You could try changing it once a month or so.. new color, diagonal, foreign language, you know, anything to make your head do a double take for a while.🤓 The timer actually sounds like the most reasonable and effective solution. I was about to jump right on this. Then, my other half told me a story about a candlemaker he used to know when he was a kid. He and the candlemakers son were allowed to use the equipment and make candles on one condition. They had to wear these obnoxious, apparently tiki shaped, pendants any time they heated up the candle wax and could only take the necklaces off when they turned the pots back off.🤣 I like this idea as it’s a sort of punishment for being so absentminded. I can see it working too, until I decide to break down and get a timer.🙂

I have burned up my wax a few times. Now, I have to move the dop pot into place to use it and then move it back. By doing this, I always know if it is on when I am finished. But, even that wasn't good enough. I have trained myself to turn off the pot when I am done dopping-- even if I plan to use it again during the same session. It heats up pretty quickly. Better than burning up more wax.
I don't like that my dop pot has a bump switch. Much too easy to hit that rocker.
khara- to remove the wax, just heat it up again and scrape it out with something like a tongue depressor. Then you can use acetone to wipe out the bits.

miket to be transparent, I used a drill to help get these circular so didn't feel like I wanted to enter them. Interestingly enough my drill setup didn't work very well so I free handed about half of the ones in the picture and will finish off of the 20 without the drill. I'm interested to see what kind of setup others have to rip out some quick circle cabs because these took way longer than I was aiming for.

This is my entry for the small cab contest. This cab is cut from a small previously made cab that had a crack in between the two fire sections. I used a trim saw with a fine kerf blade to split the stone into two pieces and cabbed each one. I used a 280 flat lap to shape and cut a buff top. The cut stone was finished in a UV-18 vibe,
