You may want to look a little closer at some of these being labeled in pencil to not sure if one was or not looked it
I know and have seen old collections labeled with pencil the older collectors sometimes use to write in pencil and it would fade a little but still able to read.
If you find one in pencil don’t scrub it just wet it and the pencil writing should (pop) meaning you can read it. When it dries it will fade again.
Then scrub if needed after you find a name on it

Super helpful tip dreamrocks. Sometimes I have washed a rock unreadable and kicked myself later. The green marker comes off easily. You don't know how many pencil marks I missed at first, until I found the name shining under light! If I had known back then what i know now...

Yes, looks like that without the purple. I think the green orby one is an ocean jasper. Thanks for all of your help. You did a great job!

dreamrocks - I'll post close up photos of the ones I can't identify after I finish the boxes. I don't want you to try and identify rocks from corners. You're very good at Where's Waldo, though!

tribeunited did you know that some rocks keep a hidden magical secrete? Until they are properly light up then they really glow

dreamrocks - I did know about the UV glow, just from trying to identify some of the gem specimens. I got nowhere with it, I decided to put them all aside until we have it all and then pay an expert to figure those out. It's better to know than to guess on some of the pricey ones. Plus who on earth would buy a "maybe gem-stone" from little miss knows nothing. LOL Were you talking about this one? This one is ocean jasper, if this is the one you meant

This one is ocean jasper, if this is the one you meant When it comes to testing gems with a black light very few will except some diamonds, rubies, sapphires most opals and a few others There are other tests a gemologist will use tools like chelsa filter and a synthetic emerald filter, refractometer for cut gems some rough, dichroscope and dark field loupe for both cut gems and rough if it small enough to fit. There a few I missed too! These all take time use & experience to use them is done with plenty of hands on use guided by someone who already knows how to use them. Usually someone with a knowledge of gemology is the best way to learn.

tribeunited this is the one I was talking about. Is this the one you showed me? Looks it. This to me for some reason at first glance looked to be all green but like I said I was only seeing just a small bit of it. After looking at it again I think I am wrong about id and your right!

Yeah, that's why I felt so bad when you were trying to ID rocks from crappy/poorly lit photos of corners of rocks! I was going to hold off on posting another ID one today, but I might have to give you a new fun project.
