The first one looks like quartzite so the comparison to countertops may be spot on.

It looks very quartzy, is 3/4” thick, and has both faces and one edge polished! I think he just liked it so tossed it into his stash.

My guess on the last one is a dull saw blade. That looks like some sort of moss agate and probably is hard. Probably tried to cut it twice and it stopped the saw blade each time. I did that recently with a really hard Prairie Agate.

Wow, glad I asked! Thanks! I would have assumed it was to relieve stress around a defect I can’t recognize, or something like that. Learning to read rocks is a future project, I need to learn what they ARE first 😅

You did it cabby! You found one from the S thread! (snowflake obsidian.) Your wish has been granted! I also like the rhodochrosite, pretty! Keep sharing the goodies!

These are Janos Thundereggs from Mexico. They have been broken down by the miners to get to the red agate cores. I have a milk crate full of them. One problem I have seen with them is that in a lot of cases the pattern has been broken off a bit..

@hankrocks wow, thanks! I was still stuck on figuring out what the heck the shape qualified as, since it’s not really nodule or seam chunks. Looked like thunderggs without the matrix, and had no idea what to call it. You saved me a ton of banging my head against a wall!

I believe I read that the reason they broke the matrix off of them was because a good many did not have any agate centers. Unfortunately breaking off matrix is an inexact task and a portion of the centers were ruined. A couple of the ones you pictured seem to have an intact full pattern agate core, a very good thing.

Thank you! None of my other Brazilians look like that so I would have spent ages trying to track down what it is!
edit:realized you were commenting on previous posts, not the big blue ones! Yeah, heck of a lot of Brazilian heels and slices around, since in laws mostly wanted big pieces for the counters and coasters.

lmfao! I ended up using ziplock bags in different sizes and index cards. That way I can write possibles with questions, details, etc. Great for smaller slabs, bigger bags great for gathering multiples of same material. Wouldn't work well with the rough you have...
