These "Found 3 mystery lumps that are too much work to bother cleaning at the bottom of the offcut bin. Anyone?" lumps are a Geode from Indiana, Tennessee, Kentucky. they appear to be too big for the Keokuck Iowa location but they are all the same missippian limestone ocean bottom type Geodes. Think cold ocean water geodes instead of the typical volcanic how water geodes like the choyas (Mexican Coconut) etc.

BTW when posting if you call the images by a number or letter they will be easier to ref for IDs.

vegasjames rmf thank you guys! Yet more things that I was completely unaware that they even exist. Blows my mind what a variety of rocks/minerals are out there! I hadn’t been labeling things since this wasn’t intended to be an ID thread (should put SOME effort in myself), mostly just eye candy as I peel back the grime. Sometimes can’t resist asking about things that are probably easy for others! I definitely appreciate it whenever someone chimes in with ID, so will start numbering things to make it easier. Anyone reading this can assume that I don’t yet know what ANY of it is and this cleaning is the first time I learned that it exists =P

chris1956 thank you for the pics! I think I HAVE seen it in my yard and ignored it, thinking it was a heavily worn granitoid. There’s moraines from 3 different lobes within 2 miles of my house, so I’m not quite sure which direction my rocks came from (my property is a pocket moraine according to old iron ore surveys, but not sure which lobe). Ive been assuming that anything in Lake Superior books will be found in my yard 😆
