Going back to sorting rocks by color... *big sigh* These blues (and blue greens), I'm certain of one thing. They aren't the same. I can't decide what they are though. #1 #2 #3 #4

I’m eager to hear responses to this one! I don’t know specific rock names, but looks like #2 is chrysocolla with cuprite… #4 maybe a shattuckite?

Pattern for 3 reminds me of wavellite but the color is wrong… looking forward to someone teaching me what else can look like that 😅

Gorgeous eye-candy! I'm no help on the ID's on this batch...other than I know they're copper based! LOL

I’m purely guessing as well, based off shapes and colors😆 if they were my rocks I would be at the microscope with a mineral guide in my hand! I’m not at all confident that I can identify copper minerals from pics or naked eye, and don’t know lapridary rough names for the mixes of minerals.

Yeah, copper bearing. The first two are quite nice and prolly some flavor of chrysocolla.

cabby - I've tried microscope before - my microscope is not powerful enough to do any ID work. I agree on chrysocolla cuprite. The possible shattukite - That was my first impression as well. I don't have enough experience with it to be definitive. I'm going to goole the wavelight thing after this. jasoninsd - Thank you and Hi again Copper based, got it. LOL rockjunquie - thanks lady! I too thought the first two were some chrysocolla (1. chrsocolla in quartz, 2 chrysocolla cuprite, 3 some head scratcher probably ditch weed, #4 possibly shattukite or chrysocolla malachite something or other. cabby thanks for bumping this one! I buried myself the last few days. However, I have a lot to get through so I try not to get held up when it's the deep dive. I have a ton not Id'd that require more experience, more testing, or hopefully finding more of the same material. Every few weeks I go back to it and usually am able to figure out a few that I couldn't before.... whether it's here or because I found some or just learned a little more. With the amount I have what's most important for me personally is not to let myself go down the rabbit hole on one piece. I'd get nowhere! That took me about a month to figure out honestly. I spent about that on one bin, it was only after time that I realized I wouldn't get anywhere that way! to all - thank you again!

I've been seeing stuff very similar to the first one being marketed as Spider Web Chrysocolla. This is a piece I recently cabbed and wrapped.

rockjunquie thanks for setting me straight on that shattukite. rockbrain - Thanks for the ID on the first one, I'm calling it that. That's a wrap!!! LOL I mean that's a great wrap on that pretty stone. I love me some blue and silver... and that piece and setting are about as good as it gets!

Oooh! Copper bearing rocks. Most folks would lump them all into the Chrysocolla name. Second and fourth ones are with cuprite. Let's tag vegasjames and see if he can narrow down the minerals in them. The third one I have no clue what that is. Doesn't look like a copper based one to me, but I dunno ....

tribeunited Cabby requests more pics of #3! Can’t quite make out the details, but looks dark crystals in that one too? Or is that water beads?

cabby - here you go sweetness. I normally wouldn't care about such a small piece, but I found it in with the gemmy stuff so had me curious. It's one I've picked up a hundred times and searched awhile, then put back down.

cabby - that's interesing!! Would explain why it was in the gemmy box for sure. I'm putting that note with it for further research. Thanks dear!

Is the blue area translucent? It MAY be gem silica hence the gemmy box. They would be small areas of gem silica, though.

Blue area not translucent. It's a mystery still, though that donuty pattern was similar to what cabby mentioned. Since I haven't found more of it I'm not going to cry if I can't figure it out, its such a small piece. I think I'll eventually come across something one day and say Eureka, until then it's got notes and its going back in the gem box.

Even a small piece of thomsonite would go in a “gemmy” box. Their rarity often makes them pretty valuable. If it IS thomsonite you would probably be surprised when seeing prices for a piece that matches whatever your size is.

Here's a couple more chrysocolla in quartz. I have some like what rockbrain showed, but I see it now has a name.
