Rockjunquie, I do live in Austin, Texas and have definitely felt the heat and lack of rain except for a sprinkle just a minute ago. The dry air and high sun intensity required me to move a number of plants from partial sun to full shade under the oaks in the yard. Leaf burn and high root temperatures can be a real problem under these conditions. I will also add that the garage temperature even with a fan is not ideal for cabbing or anything else. I think it may get worse.

You take it easy in that heat!! Our main air conditioner is out. It was 117 with the heat index today. Not fun!

I can't make myself get on the saws these days either... not interested in punishing myself in this heat and humidity.... the old rocks will wait.
But we need the rain this way... come on up Beryl.
Those in Texas be safe.

realrockhound I finished off my back about your age... I've never been the same... even decades later. Take care of that backbone... The first time I hurt mine good was moving a big catamaran over a sand dune to save it during a hurricane surge in 1979.... Its sure enough hot and muggy ... Dog Days of Summer. If folks don't drive into water over the road during a tropical storm they may live to see another day. As the DOT says about high water over the road ... "Don't Drown... Turn around". Be safe Texans.

Be safe Texans. We caught the tail end of hurricane one year when my son thought it was a good idea to go driving around. He went through some high water and learned that transmissions really hate that. My brother did the same thing.... and he flippin' knew better! Serves him right. Family or not, they were idiots.

All it takes is 8" of fast-moving water over a road can push your vehicle into the ditch, to the side of the road, which is much deeper water... then the vehicle loses contact with the roadbed and rolls over and you are now facing drowning and trying to get out of an over-turned vehicle sinking in deep water... kids and all.
I saw I guy do it with a kid in his truck right in front of me on a road many years ago in North Carolina.
Fortunately, their windows were down so they got out and didn't drown. I helped them get up out of the ditch. They were lucky.
Be safe Texans... Beryl is barreling your way tonight.

All you folks in Tx stay safe. Hunker down. Lots of rain incoming and the winds are really picking up. There's a chance of tornados forming, so please stay weather aware.

I didn't say no one was affected. But, it sure could have been much worse. Of course, my sympathies go to those people who lived at the Gulf.

Lots of tornados this morning/afternoon in TX, OK, and LA. At one point there were 10 tornado warnings and 5 tornados on the ground in TX/LA at the same time. Hope everyone is ok.
