I bought it several years back from the new owner of a rock shop where the original owner past away. The new owner changed inventory and gave our rock club the opportunity to buy old stock of the original owner at a very good price on anything from the old stock at .35 a pound.
Couldn’t pass that up that deal thats how I came across it. Always thought it was fluorite,

The picture just isn’t picking up the needles that good but the whole bottom is pretty loaded with them. It wasn’t even so I only cleaned up the even end

Yes it does look pretty tasty. It’s called Cacoxenite in Amethyst it takes a real nice polish on the cabking only. I didn’t use any polish just the cabking for the final finish.
People tell me you can’t put a polish on a stone without using polish I can and I can’t see any difference using polish verses just working out a polish with the cabking.

You most definitely can get a fine polish just by using diamond wheels. You do not have to use a "polish" like cerium oxide. On some stones a polish may help get the perfect polish, but it's not mandatory. Obviously, the finer the diamond grit and you go up the grits, the better the polish.

Oh I only went up to a 3,000 grit wheel If you go up to 14,000, it will really pop. Do you have a spin-on lap on the end of your machine? A 14,000 diamond pad or either a cerium oxide or tin oxide pad on the end would finish it off nicely. I believe cerium is what jasoninsd uses on his. Jason, correct me if I'm blowing smoke.

Yes I have all of those you mentioned The 14,000 I have is diamond paste and I use it on stones like the Montana I just posted in the lepidolite thread. Montana agates sometimes I find have a very thin layer cover tiny pin holes and diamond paste seems to work the best at removing them.

I have tin oxide that may bring it to front. I’ll wait for a day when we’re not having thunderstorms every half hour and get my flat diamond laps out and clean up the bottom. I really like the looks of all those needles hidden underneath.
After I do that and give a proper touch up I’ll put some polish to it probably tin oxide and see what happens then. Got to make the gold colors pop!
