RockNerdsThank you. whalecottagedesignsAppreciated. Canโt even express how much of a time consuming piece this was to cut and polish. That top half is essentially hanging on by a thread ๐

Dang! Everyone's got some really good stuff this time. I finally found a couple pieces with fractures on the slab. I did the patented "drop test" although I probably shouldn't have done it from 4 feet and well. There were some un-healed fractures and as the saying goes after one drops a bag of chips... now I have more chips. But one is a coming!

Recently joined this forum, so this is my first time attempting to compete in this monthly thread I know this might end up just flying to pieces, but I'm curious to see if i can keep a shape together while cabbing this piece. The cracks don't go all the way through the slab, so it might hold together?

Alas, tragedy struck. Knew it'd be a long shot - one of the cracks did end up kind of wrapping around and the rock gently fell apart during 280 grit

First attempt failed, but i gave it another try and landed on something I'm proud of. Still new to this, so I know the symmetry and doming isn't top tier. I didn't know this rock would amount to anything, but it had a little hole in it so i figured there might be more deeper in. I just took it to my 60 grit wheel and ground away until i came across a combination of hole + color i liked. Due to this, my pic of the rock before working on it is VERY rough. Just glad i snapped one at all! Because i was just freehand grinding, i didn't end up drawing an outline, preforming, or dopping.
This was made from a piece of chalcedony i found in landscaping rock in a parking lot at work in Wisconsin. And yes, the hole does go all the way through! Here are my glam shots: And here are my shots required by the competition - rough, side, and top

Beautiful cab there! itโs more sturdy than you think. But yeah, still delicate all things considered. Even with doming and polishing I had to be cognizant in the directions I was doing it.

I removed my submission since I saw a couple things that need refining. Not the least of which is some shallow depth of field making it a bit wonky to look at. Sorry, I'll have better photos later today. Apparently taking pics at 9pm in the dark without added light makes for some blurry photos.

I humbly re-submit my entry for this month's contest. To be honest I don't know what it is, I think it may have come from a slabette sale from here. It sure took a nice shine with my new cerium disc. Turkish stick agate perhaps? I'm really happy with how this turned out! it's 32mm x 22mm I'm not sure what's going on with the camera lately but it's got a real shallow depth of field on it even with a high amount of light. Cloudinary doesn't help much either. I'll try a different setting and self host a larger pic for super detail-o-vision. Top down 3/4 Angle And flat. Gotta love a cabochon baby picture. The cab with it's siblings. I'll be making something out of those as well as this stuff looks pretty cool!
