Congrats to realrockhound . As soon as I saw the cab you posted I knew if it wasn't a winner something was seriously wrong. I thought it was a great theme, but agree that the 2 should be separated. When you open it to healed cracks that really brings in a wide range of materials. This is definitely the most excited I've been for second place. I definitely don't feel like "the first loser". I was watching closely and that part of the race was really tight. Thank you realrockhound for offering such a generous prize! I didn't even realize until now that I was number 13. My lucky number. I married my wonderful wife on the 13. (42 years is 2 days away) Ha, me too. It's been almost 30 years and my son's birthday is also on the 13th. Very lucky # for me. That's why my vote went to you. All are excellent, but 13 is, well 13. Congrats to everyone, even you Evan

Congratulations to realrockhound and what a wonderful competition this was. I will have to set aside a nice slab with holes for next time.

Congratulations to realrockhound and what a wonderful competition this was. I will have to set aside a nice slab with holes for next time. Awesome. And thank you. Was kind of a funny theme for me. Couldn’t find a piece to work with for the life of me that I thought would make a nice cab. Then slabbed that piece off and gave it a go.

I agree with the above comments. In hindsight… I should have separated the two characteristics. Definitely it's in hindsight for me too. I had every opportunity before the contest to offer advice on the theme but also saw it as increased opportunity for entries. All in all it was a banging success so

Of course after I make my cab entry is when I start finding random holey slabs in my collection. I just remember panicking and flipping through 4 shoebox totes of them like some kind of geological rolodex. I'm hoping someone soon chooses "sodalite" in my super newbie days I bought 8 pounds of the stuff and now I've got at least a dozen slabs with 4 rocks that still need slabbing.

I ended up with 2nd place on this one but totally feel like the winner. I received the box of slabs yesterday from realrockhound that was for the winner (or second place if he won) He was very generous with some beautiful material and I can't wait to get started with it.
