I am so jealous!!! I get to actually set up a work area this weekend at my best friend's new house. It has a 2 1/2 car garage and she only has one car. YAY FOR ME! I'll post pics as soon as I get it set up. Up until now, I have been doing my tumbling in my tiny one bedroom apartment. My bird has become accustomed to the sound. I suppose now he'll gripe that it isn't going.
Great thread idea!

Dctmor: My shop is 12 by 20 feet. It was not super expensive because an outfit here has them sort of prefabricated and they go up in about one day. I did have to have it wired separately and put the pad in myself so the total cost ran about $6500....Mel

Mel - Thanks for the info! I am looking at about 16x22 on my addition, so it is pretty close to your size. If I build it on top of the existing deck, I won't have to worry about the pad, and I already have a couple of windows I can use. I am looking at about $1200 total by doing it myself.

Roger: Love your shop pics *L*. That's the way the garage looked before Sher chased me out to my own area. Yup, five tumblers there and the big Ball Mill 30# rig in the garage as it makes too much noise if it's not on a concrete slab *L*. Great idea for a thread too but I hate to sell any of my rocks!. I'd be hard put to pick out only a few to take pics of...Mel

Okay well here goes. I was tempted to clean, but this is the way it looks nearly everyday. As I get more cabinets things will be better, yeah right.

wow great shops everyone!!!! Sheri- the aquarium thing is actually the workings of a display cabinet- complete with lighting!!! I just have not taken to time to set it up properly. As for the nice chair- well my son broke the arms on it and wanted to toss it out- a couple bolts and some TLC and I have a comfy place to sit- and the grinder is on an old computer desk!!! one of the old fashion particle board ones (you remeber when they used REAL particle board- not the new reconstituted cardboard they pawn off on us now!) it weighs about 80 lbs and takes 2 people to move it anywhere!

Cool shops! John, that's a nice looking grinder. I don't think I've ever seen one like that before. Also, what's that little red arbor with the pie plate on the end? Is that a polisher? Great idea.
I have to do some cleaning before I can show my rock area. It's a mess but every time I go in the garage to clean it up I end up doing something rock related instead. I don't know how that happens. Steve

Mel I have a little hoe for it also. Wish I had something other then sand, and I mean just sand no rocks, to dig with it. I have put about 20 hours on the saw now and it sure works great. I could use a new blade but for now it is great......MrP

RockHobbit I ended up with those from a lapidary auction. I bought a few lbs of rough, well maybe more then a few lbs. Between two auctions I ended up with about 50-60 different varieties weighing in at 600+ lbs. I guess if I figure in the nice containers the rough didn't cost as much. ;D I know, I have it bad......MrP

Well my shop is still in the process of being built, I have my big saw out there already and some piles of rocks in one of the truck bays. I snapped a couple pictures tonight. Its still a mess out there, hoping to get a roof on it by the middle of next month. you can see the rock saw in the back of the first bay to the right of the lift truck
