Here are some pics of our work area. It's just a little space in our garage. The six foot table is a rebuild. The old top on it was that press board stuff and it got wet just one to many times. So hubby took it off and cut a new one out of nice plywood and painted several coats so it would be waterproof. The green and white stack baskets are something I've had for years. Dont remember where I got them but they sure are coming in handy now. I use an old plastic cape like they use in the beauty shop when I use the WF. Otherwise I'd be soaked from head to toe. Dirty, Dirty WF Green and white stack baskets rebuilt table rock and tumble washing area geode splitting area finished for the day and cleaned up

Wow everyone! I am really getting some good ideas for planning my new shop! I like the huge garages that some of you have, but many of you have shown that small spaces can be made to work also. I would still like to combine a wood working shop with the rock shop - but like Steve(Rocklicker) stated in my other post - the rocks are gradually taking over and weeding out the other. Very true!! LOL. Randy - You prove the double shop theory while still being able to keep it sparkling clean! Don't know if mine would stay that way!?! How many times a week do you have to clean the rock dust off the Hot Rod? Way cool ride!!

Catmandewe, nice size shop but I have a theory about that. No matter what size you build you will find enough stuff to put in it to show you should have built it bigger. Wish I had one even 1/3 that size.
Luv2hound, neat set up you have there. I don't understand that "finished for the day and cleaned up". Don't you let my wife get wind of that ;D........MrP

I am NOT alone! I feel so good right about now! I see some common items in the shops! Its weird the way we all think alike.

Nice shop Joe. I see you put your tumblers in a tray or a tub kind of thing. Makes me think. I've never had a leak or blow out but it could happen. Guess I should think about putting mine in something.

Thanx! Also Mitzi, check out that the tumblers are in a sideways box. When barrels go bad they can spray slurry in a beautiful abstract pattern! You DON'T wanna see it on your walls. I like my tumbler cove!

Thanks for the tip Joe. I'm gonna see about a box big enough for mine to sit in. It's a great idea.

Okey dokey folks - it's been a pleasure seeing the range of facilities we are all developing for our beloved rocks. Heres my little contribution. I'm afraid it's difficult to get quality equipment this side of the pond, so I've got the best I could - my 3 Evans "Junior" 3lb tumblers, not monsters but they get me by. I sort out my rox in to tumble loads, 3in flower pots make great hoppers for my little barrels. Can't wait to get a slab saw, cabber, etc... but for the moment this is fine, but I like that lortone 66 tumbler - hummmmm Cheers, Harry

Good lord Harry, I've never seen such a clean and organized shop! Excellent work area and now I feel so ashamed of the mess I always have in my shop *L*....Mel

Well Mel, I'm glad you like it - it doesn't always look like this, it's only because the suns shining and it's warm that I got the place tidied up. In the winter I sort of dash from the shed to the house, and dump everthing straight on the bench wherever it fits! So I'm happy you caught me during the right season - I love British Summers, The rain is so lovely and warm!
Cheers All,
Harry

Well I had kind of forgotten about this thread, Thanks for bringing it back to my memory. Tony, Get that roof on, those rocks will get wet! We can't have that! LOL Mitzi, very nice set up in your space. Joe, yours is very interesting and alot to look at in there. Harry, you could hook a feather duster up to a motor and pulley system and keep that place clean!!!!!!! john

Harry, I like your organization. Those little flower pots make the rocks look so nice. Great setup too with the tumblers, all in a row happily tumbling. I'm glad this thread is back too. I'm sure there are more people who could post photos (me included). Steve

Steve - The little pots are really handy for judging the loads, I can also shuffle those extra couple of pebbles in the rough stage so when I go on to the 220 I've got a good full load - and they look cool! I can take them out in the sunshine and ponder what to run next, so they work really well for my little tumblers. Also helps with my general weakness in good organisation! I liked the bins I saw in Sheri's shop earlier in the thread - it's good to see what ya got in stock. John - Your right man - but the "dark hole" out back is best left in it's archaeological situ intact We love living out in the country, but the old outbuildings are little more than servicable, My tumblers live in the old "game" shed, the local "Toffs" would gather for country shoots, and the phesants would be "hung" in the game shed to cure for a few days. I'm not a shooter myself and the cottage hasn't had a game keeper in it since we moved in 10 years back. If i start moving the cobwebs about you never know what i might find here! The bats in the loft freak the hell outa me sometimes! It's really fascinating looking through the thread here to see what scale we are all working too, and the different ways we've all found to solve the same problems. I'm scavenving the bits to build a carboard tumbler cave for the inevitable catastrophic blow out! Thanks Joe - great idea!!! It just shows that this rock thing is enjoyment for all, wherever you are, whatever you've got. Thanks everyone - Keep 'em tumbling folks! Cheers, Harry
