Matt, you need to move north! I have a friend in Ft. Worth and that's all I hear from her too. She complains about the heat, I complain about the cold ... until summer rolls around then I can complain about the heat too. I know this sounds weird but it's easier to get warm in the winter than it is to cool off in the summer though.

Cher-
I saw my first snow in SLC today. Nothing accumulated, but it was flying. We've had lots in the mountains, but not down here in the valley. Keep that electric blanket on and throw another log on the fire!!!!

Ahhh Cher- I found it! So it starts! Yea I used to love the snow- about to about 5 years ago- seems my body is protesting getting old and the cold just don't agree with me! I used to snowmobile, X country ski (still do when the ole body is able) sled- all that good stuff- I still get into at least on good snowball fight with my daughter (usually ends with her face all red from being pelted by Daddy- and me soaking wet from rolling around laughing!) But between the idiots who forget how to drive, the never ending snowblowing, the piles that just build and build (we measure our snow in feet) the cold biting wind, and the fact that I have to put on boots and a coat just to take out the garbage (I much prefer my underwear and old bedroom slippers!) well it just wears thin- then April hits- the sun comes out- the birds start to sing- the flowers poke their little buds up through the mud- Ahhh Spring- well only 5 months to go!

Cher, is that a birdbath out there? (I'm a birder in my other life) It's pretty hot here today and tonight... But the wind is really a-howlin'. Must be late Santa Ana's. Could be earthquake weather but doesn't feel quite right (hope not!)

Cher, is that a birdbath out there? (I'm a birder in my other life) It's pretty hot here today and tonight... But the wind is really a-howlin'. Must be late Santa Ana's. Could be earthquake weather but doesn't feel quite right (hope not!) That little blue spot is a frisbee covering the top of a finch feeder. It helps a little on rainy days but not much in the winter. That's so cool, I love watching the birds too. We have a heated birdbath attached to our deck railing with feeders all over the place. The big one up close usually hangs on the shepards hook but the raccoons wouldn't leave it alone so we hung it from the eave. I felt so bad for the birds this morning, found this poor little junco trying to hide from the wind. This is on the opposite side of the house, we have bird feeders all over. Then I noticed the chickadees were busy fueling up. As you can see, we got more again last night. Yesterday it had rained and the snow was almost completely gone. *sigh* I guess this poo is here to stay. Sorry the pics aren't better, hard to get good ones when it's so gloomy out.

Still no snow here (yet) but this morning it was 66 degrees at 5:00 am- buy 7:30 it was down to 46- it is suppossed to get down to 32 by evening- and we might have 6inches by morning!

Well I hope it stays away for a few more days anyway. Enjoy it while you can, I just went out to shovel and someone has stolen my freakin' snow scoops. I'm so p!ssed right now, not to mention frozen from trying to shovel with a piece of doo shovel. You know those big ol' iron ones they used for shoveling coal. Tooo heavy, snow sticks to it. ISH! It's downright nasty out there with this north wind, but I shouldn't complain, the got it worse down in the cities than we did up here.

I love the bird pics. The last one, the bird wuth the seed, is so cool. In the first pic is that the famous Yankee Clipper squirrrel tosser? I tried putting a heater in my birdbath last year but the raccoons tried to drag it off. Only the cord kept it in the yard. Darn raccoons. (Sorry Kim! )

OK, I know it's a rock site, but Cher thanks soooo much for sharing the bird pics! Do you put suet out in winter? That really helps keep them warm and sustains them through the cold :>

Joe ... yes, that's exactly what it is. My son gave it to me for my birthday one year. I just love it, we've had some fun with it. This heater one is built in they can't run off with it. We don't see the coons in the winter up here though. It's really chilly tonight, we're already down to 3° above.
Yes, I do put suet out for them when the starlings aren't around. Those freakin' hogs just make it disappear.

Last night turned out to be colder than expected, and our first night in the minus range at -1° below zero. Man that sucks, it's too freakin' early to be getting that cold at night. They keep saying we're suppose to be in the 40's by weeks end ... I sure hope so. Damn, I've had enough of this white poo, I'm ready for spring. ;D

Beautiful Pics! I love all the evergreens around your back yard.
We got a bit of a dusting here. 50 miles NW of Chicago. All of this snow talk reminds me of how blessed I am to be able to work from home. Trudging to the train for Chicago in minus weather with a wind chill factor of -12 is not going to be missed. At all!
