I had one when I was a kid, loved it so I just ordered two more. They are the Garrett "Ace 250" model. Anyone ever have any experience with this one? It's a new model but I don't know exactly how new. Oh, the second one is for my father-in-law, he mentioned a while back that he wanted to get into this, plus we'll have a hobby that we can share on weekends. Here's a link to one... hrbenterprises.com/ace250.html

The last ones that I used were about a year ago, a Fisher coin-master and a CZ-70. Both belonged to a buddy's dad. He has ten different detectors, maybe more by now.

Me and Stefan are avid md'rs and there is alot of good info on this model at www.detecting.com. That is the Bounty Hunter site ( and where I learned of this board via Stefan) and lots of folks use the Ace 250. From all I've read its a great machine. Check out that board, they are great and will answer any questions you might have

We have a $20 kiddie model. Not as sophisticated as yours I'm sure. Founds lots of bottle caps, A lipstick, Tin foil that wraps around chocolates, nails, and a nickel all in the same day!

If you have a Garrett, you have a good one. My uncle only buys the besdt there is, and he says he swears by a Garrett, no matter what model number it is. You have yourselgf a go-getting machine.

Had one when i was a kid, found an old rusted out revolver (ball and cap) and a morgan silver dollar. Still have the silver dollar, don't know where the revolver is anymore and its probably worth more than the dollar.

You found a Morgan? Wow, I never got that lucky, I found just about everything else though. I'd like to hit some of the Civil war sites, there are a ton of them in this area. The original Jamestown and Williamsburg settlements are about 40 minutes away! The problem is that it's forbidden to search alot of these areas and the ones that are open to the public are all tapped out because of the treasure hunting clubs in the area.

Addy is correct, have to go down to the bulletin board link on the left. If you still can't get in you might need to clean your cache Funny thing is, I got my first tumbler to clean my clad finds LOL and look where it led me

Yea Garrett Ace 250 is a great machine- I have 2 Bounty Hunter Models and have made many great finds (best so far- 1864 2 cent piece- 18something medal from the Grand Army of the Republic encampment) MDing is a great hobby and very relaxing- Best advice- research the heck out of a machine- then make your purchase and learn the machine- It matters little how much you spend- the best machine in the hands of an idiot won't find much- The simplest machine in the hands of an expert will find everything!

Great info, thanks!! I actually had one growing up, it was a $40 detector (alot of money for a kid) I'm 41 now. lol, I used to find all kinds of cool stuff, my favorite place was playgrounds. It's amazing how much money girls lose doing cartwheels! ;D lol.... I received both metal detectors today, gave them a test run. This model is great! It has all the options of the more expensive models but is so easy to use.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a good magnetometer now that I think about it...
Anyone have one lying around gathering dust?

I would agree with Stefan --I have a garrett (have had several others too over the years )even the 29$ ones will find coins if you turn them on --I'm waiting for them to make one that you turn on and it goes around in circles then stops and beeps when it hits gold by it's self

Keep dreamin Snow- we all want one like that! Randy I make a killing at playgrounds (even some nice silver rings!) and soccor feilds- course most of it is modern stuff- But I do get an occasional wheat penny- and a silver dime once (1964- not worth much) My favorite spots are old homesteads- it is just too fun to pull a handful of silver out of the ground- I also like to search old school sites- The money payoff isn't as great but the older toys and relics are a blast!

Hey Randy, I was just wondering how you are feeling now about the Garrett Ace 250? Been thinking about getting one. Let me know how it's going with yours. Thanks, Ron
