Ok, my apologies in advance to our Dub'ya lovers but this is just going to far. The Bush admin has subpoena'd Google cause they want to know what people are searching for. What's up with that? Arrrggggghhhhhhhhhh glad I don't use google anymore.

All I heard about it was they are looking at porn searches - if this is the case, I'm all for censorship, especially when it envolves children.

If that was the case, then yes, I'm all for anything that will protect children. But when I heard the story they said nothing about that, just that the Bush admin want's to know what people are searching for. *sigh* You have to admit, with the onset of the internet, our lives no longer belong to us, there's no such thing as privacy anymore. A great deal of security was lost to new technology.

Yup, the subpoena was for just "Child pornography". Google refused. With the internet being what it is, there is no way it can be regulated unless it is being done worldwide. That will never happen with 3rd world countries used as mirror sites and such.
Everyone has their own opinions on privicy issues. That's one of great things about the USA, we are all protected. Me, I don't much care if they see what I do on the net or listen to my phone calls, but that's me. Some people care, I can respect that.
But when it comes to child porn, rather than spin their wheels with our legal system I would like to see them just send little "computer nukes" to all those involved. Just electrically blow up their computers. Just a supply and demand kind of thing. If there is no demand (dead computers) then there will be no reason for supply.
Just my 2 cents, everyone has an opinion......

Thats the attitude that opens the door to big brother to come in our homes with wire taps, and cameras. Very disapointing! Once the government gets the list of one week of searches, you don't think everyones IP address will be included? If not that will be the next step, to subpoena everyones IP so they can bust everyone that has looked up something that just might be questionable. Wouldn't youn feel violated if you typed in a search and used the wrong phrase? I would. I feel if you don't care if the government listens to your phone calls or moniters your internet useage, you should go live in Russia or one of those 3rd world countries. Just call up the FBI and ask them to install a camera in your bedroom today. America was all about freedom, I say was.

Yeah, I'm afraid the "War on Terrorism" has already been lost. We have already surrendered so many freedoms and our own government has become so paranoid of it's own citizens. You have to be careful about allowing things like a, "War on Pornograhpy"; because is usually ends up like the "War on Communism" that McCarthy fought.

You're right, it's amazing what they can do already with IP addy's and what not. Don't know if any of you ever watch Forensic Files on CourtTV but I remember one about a guy who had killed someone and was taunting the police by sending a map of where to find the body. He thought he was really smart printing the map from an online source. Thing is, these map places keep a record of all maps that are requested for x amount of time and by this they were able to find the map he printed, get his IP address, get the ISP's records and trace it right to the guys house.
PS. With being on chemo, I have to use a lot of different drugs. I used to just look them up on the net to find any reactions a person might experience. Now I'm almost afraid to do that, someone might figure I'm trying to buy illegal prescriptions or whatever. I still do look them up, for my own piece of mind or to know if something I'm feeling is caused by a certain drug but don't think I haven't thought about this.

Well, I don't have any plans to be moving to Russia, earthdog. Glad to know that you have an opinion on where I should live though, I said that I "respected" those that did care and that was their right to. I'm trying to think of what is so special about my bedroom that you think the FBI would want to put a camera there if I invited them to???
You sound a little paranoid. I can only speak from what I have learned in life. I can tell you that after working for "the government" for 26 years that they just don't care what goes on in the life of the average person. Why would they? The FBI has about as much interest in what goes on in the home of "average Joe" as the guy does that changes the oil in my car! "Big Brother" has been here for a very long time, you just didn't know it.
That being said, there are always a few that will abuse any authority they have. Just listen to the stories of a few chiorboys........ people are just what they are, people.

I'm sure earthdog didn't mean YOU exactly but used the word as a general term referring to you the public or perhaps you = those who want to change our way of life like the Islam woman who thought she shouldn't have to uncover her face for her driver's license. We lose a little more of America, the land of the Free everyday. It's totally sad!

I wouldn't be too worried about looking up your meds, Cher! Very smart of you to do by the way. Docs and pharmacy folks do a pretty good job, but they are human and do make mistakes too. Anyone doing a forensic exam of your searches or computer would see the pattern of these searches. I have read your posts and I think you are doing a great job of staying involved with the medical people. It sure can be intimidating dealing with those people! They know so much, and yet, seem to have a hard time sharing their knowledge with you at times. I wish you the best!! Bill

George is probably mad in part at Google for the following reason; type in the word "failure" in Google and look at the first thing that comes up. As a registered Republican, didn't vote for him, can't stand him and most of the Republicans I know can't stand him either! He is a disgrace to the party and I am seriously considering going Independent. In fact I, like so many Republicans today because of Bush, already consider myself to be so. Extremes are bad, left or right.

You'd almost think John Ashcroft was still around. But he just got whooped at the Supreme Court.

It's interesting to see how the differing "news" agencies report on this issue. They span from Fox News on one side to NPR on the other. I found that if you read the actual motion filed by the Department of Justice that can be read at news.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/google/gonzgoog11806m.html you will find that none of them are very accurate. The motion is a little dry to read but you get the general feel of it by the second page. Rich, very interesting at the site that you posted where they talk about the way in which google tends to collect personal data as it searches for you and that google may be more concerned about how this process is done vs. the actual privacy issue. As I recall, Mark our moderator, hit the nail on the head in some of his posts concerning how google spies on people as it searches.

Dub'ya and his cronies(Cheney, Rummy, Condy, Berto) always seem so forthright to the naive.
"We're only going after Child Pornographers" or "We're only going after Terrorist Links" or "We are only targeting__________(fill iin the blanks)"
And it sounds so good and wholesome but ... reality is a bitch...
It you do not agree with them...If you prove that they have not been truthful...you are attacked with a vengeance. Just ask Valerie Plame. Look at how they going after the persons who revealed they are illegally wiretapping you and me. They have no morals, no character whatsoever. They had behind God and take his name as a shield and blaspheme with impunity...
And the choir (Fox News, Talk Radio) just echo the lies and make believe it is the truth
