OK...Had my left eye done yesterday. I just can not beleive how well I can see out of it already. Everything is just so much clearer now. ...plus.. I can actually read without glasses for the first time in my life. I am so thrilled with the results so far. I went from 20/50 to 20/30.....and the doc said it could improve a little more after I get my right eye done. The right eye is now scheduled for April 19th....earlier if someone cancells their surgery. I can always hope they do.....am so ready for this to be all over. Waliking a little off center now but when the right eye gets finished I will be ok. I did hope for better results but am extremely pleased with what I do have now. Another week or so of eye drops every 4 hours...ewwwww..hate those but understand they are important to the sucess of the surgery so will do it. Will kee ya informed as this goes along.
Will be back in the rock smacking and tumbling business in just over a month.....

Just be careful with the stairs until you get your eye fixed...when I was a kid I had the whole lazy eye thing going on and wore a patch. It completely screws your depth perception and I fell UP the stairs, putting my top teeth right through my bottom lip. It was pretty spectacular I must say! I'm so glad you can see better...nothing like good vision. Congrats on the successful procedure and I hope the next one goes as well.

Good for you, Pho. Now that you can see better, I hope you don't have to put everything you've tumbled the last couple of years back into polish. After the other eye's done, they'll be calling you Eagle Eye Pho.

Man, I hope to get surgery sometime this year. As it stands, I can't even roll over and see the wife in the mornings. I found a doctor who is confident I can get pretty damn close to 20/20. I just need to come up with $2800...

Ahhhh are we talking Lasik? When it comes to eyes, I'm a big Chicken! I was seriously thinking about it and heard thousands of good comments but heard one Bad and that squashed it for me for now! I'm with you thehawke can't see hubby without glasses or contacts - not a bad thing, I often wake up with Dean Cain next to me in the mornings which is a good thing!

No Lasik..just what has become normal cataratic surgery...remove the bad stuff and put a little piece of plastic in it's place.... I am very lucky here in that I do have some good insurance and a supplement policy that will pick up my share.

Oh, I am going for lasik, eventually. I reorganized the craft room so I can start ebaying again (selling this time). Maybe I can earn enough for my surgery!

Thats great Pho. I've thought about having it done, but with my luck I'd be the 1 person in 2700000000000000000000000 that their sight got worse. Be careful till you are all fixed up

My stepdad had cataract surgery befor ehe died (obviously, since you don't get it done AFTER you die) and he too really appreciated the increase in his quality of life from being able to see again.

I had Lasik in August of 2004 and it's the best thing that I ever did for myself. My vision is 20/20 in both eyes. Prior to that, my eyes were -8.

Isn't it so wonderful what modern medicine can do for people. Now...just try to think what medicine will be like in another 100 years. Things we are now taking as an every day proceedure was unheard of just 50 years ago. For those who may be thinking of doing this...talk to your doctor...and then go for it!!!!

sherry that does me alot of good to hear you have 20/20 vision. The doctor has told me he's been successful at getting 20/20 vision with people worse than me (also -8) but it always helps to hear it from the horse's mouth.
I know this would be lifechanging and my wife is determined that I get it done. How did my eyesight get so bad? I remember it clear as day. I was in the 2nd grade and was playing tetherball. The bell rang to end recess and I thought I heard someone call my name and looked towards that. My opponent did the classic kid thing of spinking the ball, not knowing I wasn't watching, and it spun around and smacked me so hard, I hit the ground. And I couldn't see clearly ever since.
Have we hijacked this thread?

Not at all hawke......if I were you....I'd go see a damn good eye doctor and see if Lasik is for you or some other type of eye surgery...after all...ya can't see good now so what ya got to lose? I had no second thoughts at all about mine. As soon as the doc said I needed surgery to correct my problem...I told him to get it scheduled.... No use in putting off things that you know need to be done. Everyone I talked to about this surgery said I would see nothing and feel nothing..well they were wrong on bothj points. I was awake for the whole thing and did feel a little discomfort. I would not go so far as to say it was pain. The doc did stop and give me another shot of pain killer above the eye about half way through the proccedure. When I was ready to go home, the nurse gave my glasses to the wife....I told her I needed those to drive home with...lol....has all of the nurses in stictes.... I also left them with a nice handful of shiny Apache Tears....just as a little token of my appreciation...should have seen their faces....they were estatic... Never hurs to leave the staff with a good impression when you know you will be coming back.....

Oh dear Pho, sorry for hijacking your thread!
I never thought I'd have Lasik-- I never really minded wearing my glasses. But one day I stepped out of the shower and couldn't find them-- they had fallen on a pile of clothes and of course, when your eyes are that bad you can't see detail. I was afraid to move for fear of stepping on my glasses, and I finally had to have my husband come in and find them for me. And I remember very clearly thinking "This is complete BS."
They gave me a Valium before surgery, put drops in my eyes to numb them, and then told me to stare at a blinking green light. (I had practiced staring straight ahead for a couple of weeks prior) It took about 15 or 20 seconds for each eye. It didn't hurt at all, and I had the sensation of being aware that he was working with my eyes, but it was not unpleasant in the slightest.
It's hard to describe--I could see better almost immediately, but things were sort of fuzzy for a week or two-- like looking out through Vaseline (if that makes any sense.) I had it done on Friday and went to work on Tuesday though, and I don't remember having any real problems. But it did take about three months for my vision to totally clear up to the point where I thought "WOOHOO!" It still amazes me to be able to read road signs from a good distance away or to roll over in bed and look at the clock without having to smack myself in the forehead with it.
They told me I would experience dry eyes afterward and that it might be permanent, but my eyes are no dryer than they were before the surgery. I just carry drops with me and use them if I need them. I do have some minor haloing around lights if I drive at night, but it's not a big deal and I have adjusted.
That's just my experience-- your may be differen t, but Pho is right-- if you do get Lasik, make sure your Doctor is is a darned good one.

glad to hear things went well, Pho! both my mom and my auntie had the cateract surgery, it's amazing to see them without glasses now! my friend had one of the first Lasik surgeries (she wore Coke bottle glasses all her life), it was life changing for her, as you can well imagine. although she still has a problen with night driving (halos).
i'm scared silly about having anything done to my eyes, i can't even imagine using contact lenses. i couldn't handle no-line bifocals....now i just walk around with an Opti-Visor on my head all the time, lol.
best of luck, Pho!

KD...there is realy nothing to be afraid of in having this surgery. When the doc said I needed it there was no hesitation at all on my part. I knew it was get the surgery or go blind....needless to say, I do not want to be blind. I have a lot of adjusting to do. And I do understand it will take a little time for things to realy get to normal but that is ok. I hate the eye drops every 4 hours .....never did like eye drops anyway. I an so ready to get the right eye done now. Even hoping someone cancells out and I can get in earlier. I think most people are afraid of the unknown...I sure am. But, this is a safe and easy operation. And if you need another little shove in that direction..just think of how well you will be able to see....ROCKS!!!!!!!!!..

Glad you're doing so well, but please don't be in too much of a hurry to smack rocks. You really need to be careful for awhile. Trish
