Some cool jobs listed already. By now most of you know that in nice weather, I drive a huge rock tumbler. About 48 thousand pounds of rock in fact. Most people know them as cement mixers though. I have been a truck driver all my working life, I think it's going on 28 years of driving semi's over the road, and local. 8 of those years driving cement mixers.

Videoconferencing Engineer
I manage over 100 systems worldwide (hundreds more coming this year) and make sure they're all running properly. Oftentimes I have to be in the meetings to ensure all is working OK. I also train users on the proper use of equipment as well as purchase the stuff. One of these days I'd like to make it out on my own but we'll see.
Cool technology. Big Brother is watching!!!!

I work as a Tech in a busy Emergency room at a hospital. It's interesting all the time, you never know what will happen next. I can do (and stand) almost anything--two things get to me tho--people coughing up stuff from their lungs, and the other is the sound of bone as it is being cut--ugh!!!! I also show/breed/train/hunt Weimaraners. Kinda funny--I can see all kinds of stuff for real at work, watch ER shows on tv, but I absolutely cannot watch Animal Planet ER vet for dogs.

I have been a laborer in a flooring store for about 8 years, I unload trucks, cut carpet, keep inventory, etc. Not my job of choice. I was a hospital corpsman in the Navy, years ago, when I got out went into Physicians Assistant Program, graduated, there were a lot of politcal problems being a PA back then. I was offered a job as a Manager, technician, in a cardiac lab. I did that for 15 years at Cleveland Clinic, then got an offer at private lab in Mi. Moved here in 1982. Worked there until 1996. Spend 30 years total in the field and loved it. But I lost my job because insurance companies weren't paying enough for the company to run test, so they closed the department. For 1 1/2 years I was unemployed, got various jobs off and on. In 1998 got carpet job. In 2 years I retire, and I can't wait. Terry

i do what terry does but i can't retire in 2 yrs. we have a flooring store, carpet cleaning business and now i've added rocks too. but my favorite job is mowing - hours and hours of mindless mowing. then i have some jobs i do not like like cleaning house and laundry. but cooking is not my job. i'm testing that theory that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach - he's still here so there must be a backdoor somewhere lol. sands keeps trying to give me an apron for rock work but i just can't bring myself to put an apron on.

This is a cool thread! Interesting, too. I work for the County as a Child Support Enforcement Specialist. I go after the non-paying parents. If you don't pay your child support, I'm the one who initiates court actions, both civil contempt and criminal. I'm basically a debt collector with a little more "power". We don't do "traditional" collections like harassing phone calls; just letters, and then court! We can also do bank account seizures, suspend driver's licenses. As you can guess, a lot of people don't like me! I have to deal with both custodial and non-custodial parents. The custodial parents (mostly moms) are worse to deal with. They get mad at me because the person they chose to have a child with doesn't pay their support and they want to blame ME! I wasn't the one that slept with him! Anyway..............I love my job!!

My job is to send the wife to work. Then I stay home and play with rocks and make sure the dogs and cats do their jobs. I even cook on occasion. And I also clean now and then.
Before, I was office manager for my wife's business. I got fed up with the office politics and was getting crabby so she begged me to quit. OK, maybe I begged her to let me quit. Before that, I owned a hemp shop. Before that, I was a contractor at Microsnot.

Former journalist, former communications person for dept of Justice, and now I work at a rather large university in Massachusetts, where I organize conferences for a program that studies national and international defense. My real job, however, is as mother to my four year old. She's charming, talented AND brilliant (just the other day came up with "you know mom...girls are the sun....and boys are clouds"). I also play with rocks, and keep house...badly.

Wow, it's funny how we've all been on here talking rocks and kinda getting to know one another. This seems to put a whole new spin on who we are. When I was around 25, I was a service manager for a copier repair dealership. One night after hours, I brought my guitar and amp to the shop so I could play without disturbing my neighbors at home and one of the sales girls was there working late. She told me that after hearing me play, she was having a hard time thinking of me as a technician any more. So it's nice to meet all of you folks in a new light too.

Worked as a research litigation paralegal for large lawfirm in NE Tennessee, before moving here to East Texas. Now I'm working for the Corps of Engineers at the hydroelectric power plant on Sam Rayburn Lake as their Support Services Specialist. Talk about a change in work assignments! Also, trained and showed horses almost my entire adult life, until moving here to the lake. Now find TOO many other interests to get back in to horses - fishing, hunting, hiking and picking up rocks, swimming, scuba diving . . . . .

Me- Well I have been in the Pet Industry for 14 years now- I have worked in 2 stores and as a sales Rep- Now I'm a CSR for a small Catalog pet company (no cats, no dogs, just small exotics) But I get to do a lot more than that, I Also fill in for the shipping department (when she takes a day off) and I get to order products, work on R and D, work on the catalog, give interviews (if any of you are fimiliar with the Pet Trade rags- I'm in there 1 or 2 times a year) I also run the fork truck, shovel the snow, and clean the bathroom! My wife is the real bread winner- she is a Guidance Counslor (god love her)for a High School. We have 2 kids (a son, 18 who has moved in with his grandma, and a daughter 10 who can do no wrong) and 2 dogs (scottie and a dauchaunt, chihuahua cross) and we love to camp.

It sounds to me that this is a very intelligent group of folks! I thought most people only worked at fast food or convenience stores or "I can't find a job"........oh wait, I'm thinking I'm at my job right now! Sorry!

Well... me & my blister (aka husband) own a sports bar/nightclub in Gresham. Been doing this about 16 years now. Before that, I was a stay at home mom & proffessional taxi cab driver while my daughter did softball, soccer & volleyball.

I recently finished a phlebotomy technician program, and am looking for work in that area (drawing blood in a lab). I've previously worked as a unit secretary in a hospital, medical transcriptionist, and web designer. My ultimate goal is to get into a radiography technologist program and become and Xray or MRI tech. These programs are very hard to get into, so I have to wait to even become considered as a student.
My other hobbies are gardening, genealogy, hiking, camping, volunteer work, crocheting, and working with miniatures and dollhouse stuff. Someday I'll post some photos of my other hobbies. Rocks sure seem to be in the forefront of all these interests, though.
