Seems there's been a lot of talk about people's jobs lately, so I thought it might be nice to find out what rockhounds do to support their rock habit. Me? I send my wife to work everyday. No, just kidding. I'm a cabinetmaker/woodworker. How about you?

I work for the government and all day I pay invoices and make up contracts for other government departments & then pay those invoices...It's a vicious circle Oh and I graduated in technical drafting (architecture) years ago - got side-tracked by the lack of work & got a temp job in the governement "until I found an opening in architecture" - 13 years later I'm still paying invoices... & forgot how to hold a pencil... but the artistic side seems to have remained in me - can't beat that out of me! ;D

I am a surveillance observer in a casino, meaning I watch EVERYONE and EVERYTHING. My main function is to make sure the games are dealt/played correctly and no one pulls anything whether that be a dealer or a player. Secondary to that I keep my eyes on everything else so that the casino is protected along with our employees and customers.

I'm a former postal worker now on medical retirement. When and if I get another job I'll let you know, probably in a complaint/rant thread! Right now I stay occupied with shining stones.

I work as a veterinarian's assistant. Small town practice and only vet in the area. I have worked there 11 years now and love it. Some perks include; the practice is only a mile away(actually it's next door) but it is in the Dr's house and he is our next door neighbor!! Since his family and mine have been in the area forever I've known him for years so he and his family are friends as well. I can take my dog to work with me (another perk) as he is a 5 month old Rottie pup and would be alone too long during the day as my husband is away working for 2 weeks at a time. My commute usually consists of walking or taking my quad on an old trail. It's a 25 minute walk or a 5 minute drive away. I've shared the trail with deer, moose, grouse, a hawk and bears (even grizzlies one year). Only drawback is there isn't enough hours left in the day to do what I love, which is going fishing with my husband when he is home, play with grandkids, walk on the beach (we live on the Kootenay Lake) and have fun with rocks.

Just got my job as a booking agent for Grand Canyon Railway, before that, self-employed, before that a HAZMAT truck driver. Cool thread Stoner. BTW, I STILL don't know what I want to do when I grow up!
Xena, is that you in the big black half domes in the ceiling?!?! Are you in Puyallup? That is where my wife's grandma used to like to go.

"Me? I send my wife to work everyday."
I'm not kidding!!
I used to do a lot of computer software contract work specialising in spreadsheet systems and VBA (visual basic for applications) for large companies and government departments. I still do some of that but I find I don't have much time anymore -- rocks are taking over!
