The high fuel prices and fuel supply uncertainty has had one good effect. It isn't obvious but in the last few years we have seen an honest demand for fuel economy and alternative fuel solutions. Granted, many vehicles get worse mileage than ever but you can also get a comfortable car that gets 38 mpg. We just need to move faster toward more logical fuel usage and I believe that these high prices will draw people to think more logically about it. This is a link to some info about a mileage contest that is held annually. The goal of course is to travel the farthest on a limited amount of fuel. The records on this web site show one team was able to get more than 8000 miles per gallon of fuel. I did hear over the radio about a year ago that a Japan team got well over 10,000. I know that we could have cars that are safe and comfortable and get 100 miles to the gallon. If we demand them someone will make them. www.eco-marathon.net/

On my recent trip to the Moab/Green River, Utah area it was as high as $2.89, but I paid around $2.50.
When I go to pay for it I always say to the person working the counter, "I've got $247.00 in gas" It usually brings a laugh to both us. What else can you do, eh?

Our gas is up to $2.85 around here. I refuse to buy from Exxon/Mobile after learning of that nice little retirement package they gave their CEO...worth about 400 million bucks. No wonder the price at the pump is so high. Exxon makes an estimated 100 millions bucks a day in profits according to CNN. 36 BILLION BUCKS A YEAR......and they have the nerve to say they can't drop the price ?

With a $150 engine and some bike parts these kids where making vehicles that got 400+ mpg. I don't think they would fair well on the freeway, ;D, but you get my drift. However, I do have to agree with you about the little guy getting ahead Sands. An old timer told me once " If S**t where money they would take away our a**holes". The longer I live the more this looks to be true.

Ummm not sure what the price is in litres but here it went up to $1.144 - it used to be $0.75 was expensive - all stations had to change their signs to accommodate the $ sign - This is the reason I bike in to work...

Tweet, If you pay $1.144 per liter that would be $4.33 a gallon Canadian or $3.82 US. Or, too much!!
I would try to avoid certain oil companies but they all go by strange brand names for the gas stations around here. One of the newer names to be used is Rich. Can you believe that one!!! Bill

If everyone bought only 10 gallons each time they purchased gas, and nothing else from the fuel stop, even if you have to fill twice a week, or more, this will drive down the price of gas. The sheer logistics from maintaining an half empty tank from the pump side, minus the impulse buys makes it hard for the fuel station to keep large, expensive stock on hand. Also, if the first 10 gallons cost 258 per gallon, and the next 10 gallons costs 265 a gallon, the price offset brings down the actual cost to fill. This is the only method THEY are actually afraid people will try, and stick to.

I severely question using alcohol additives, leading to alcohol fuels. It takes 11 acres, at 382 average gallon of fossil fuel useage to produce alcohol, at 1.40 per gallon. It costs .98 to produce one gallon of gasoline, and deliver it to the fuel tank. Based on 10,000 miles per year useage, the entire United States would be one cornfield to meet demand for 10% ethanol useage. It takes the same amount of acreage to feed 11 adults, the livestock, and chickens for human consumption as it does to produce 10% ethanol fuels. The ethanol in the fuel lowers the octane, reducing power, recquiring more fuel to be burned per mile, reducing the efficiency of the proposed mixture. Is it really the oil companies, or the taxation that costs? There are some real questions here.

What did I pay last time? To be honest I don't know, my company pays for all my gas and I buy from whom ever is around when I need it but like chevron the best. Chevron gas has been proven to get the most mileage out of a gallon, don't ask me how I don't know but all the auto companies use it when testing for gas mileage.
