Being an American and when you call any government office, local, state, or federal and you have to press "1" to here the menu in English?

Yes I do!! Is this America or Mexico? Do other countries put English options for those who only speak Engish? Or do you learn the language and the culture around you and not impose your language and culture on the new country you chose to go to? Why is this country so accomodating to those of other countries that they discriminate against those whose taxes support this country? If in Rome do as the Romans do.... if in America do as the Americans do or go back home!

if in America do as the Americans do Well, one of the problems as I see is that half of America must think 180 degrees apart from me because as a right wing conservative Bible thumpin' West Texas redneck, half this great country is doing things I want no part of. To me, what some of the illegal aliens are doing, and getting away with, fit right in with the way 'the left' conducts their policies....but hey... Just sayin'.  |

What I don't understand is why the ATM card at my bank knows who I am and even says hello to me by name when I put it in, but then I have to tell it what language to conduct my transaction in?
I mean if I was a new customer or from another bank that might make sense but it just seems silly....

i am still waiting for the "Universal Translator" to be invented, so everyone can go everywhere and communicate without error or misunderstandings. with a reading adaptor plug-in module to translate signage and menus.

I THINK the drive through Braille ATM's exist because you can also "walk up". Most banks that have them do not have a walk up unit. And then there's the whole thing that it would not be cost efficient to have 2 different kinds of buttons, so they make everything the same. For those of you who say no one would ever walk up to a drive thru, I will refer you to my 20 yo who just got her license this last summer. She will not drive thru anything, ever, she parks and gets out of the car.

...right ...left ...doesn't matter ..those are just labels ...with very few exceptions ..a politician's agenda has nothing to do with the label he is affiliated with ...after all he/she is an elected official who's goal is to be re-elected ...if they are removed from office where do they go? ...they become lobbyists for special interests groups ..does anyone think that the right or the left has the best interests of our country at heart? ...no, because they are all too busy scratching each others backs ...caught up in a never ending cycle of greed and power mongering ...policies are developed in secret with hidden agendas engineered into seemingly innocuous legislation...
...immigrants? At least 2 of my immigrant ancestors came here illegally... I've lived in Houston 40 years and have seen the incredible influx of Latin American human beings come to this country looking for a better way of life ...to escape the oppressive poverty which they have no hope of escaping otherwise ...these people don't live in a country where opportunity is abundant ...who's fault is that? ...maybe ours? ...does US policy allow the governments of these people to keep them in poverty? ...hmmm I wonder.
I know what kind of poverty these people come from.. I've seen it first hand and I know why they are poor ...i thank God for my blessings ..and i help if i can because they are fighting for freedom and a better way of life.. I can't change the foreign policies of my country or the domestic policies of any other ..but i certainly control my own policies...

... i don't know enough about the amnesty program to actively support it ...i only consider the alternatives to some form of so called amnesty ...deportation? ..build a wall? ...to me it is waisted effort ..we should focus on why they come here instead of staying in L. America
