Bob your silver work on that bracelet is just incredible. Thanks for posting about how you make spheres. I have a real soft spot for them and consider them the perfect shape. I have about 150 I've made from different species of woods with about another 125 sitting in my shop waiting to be made.

Tony, Do you have a special device to make, sand and polish your spheres? I'd be interested in seeing pictures of it. Bob

I notice that many people have questions about the bracelet. Does anyone want me to do a tutorial on how I made it? The tutorial will start with making the wax pen to do the wax work, mixing your own special flexible wax, designing and drawing the wax on a pattern, etc. Bob

Here's an idea for you. You can make your own diamond core drills. I've been meaning to do this but haven't got around to doing it yet. I buy diamond brazing rods to make grinding cups for my sphere machine. You just braze a bead onto the metal cup and they will grind rock quite well. I noticed that the company that sells them had an example of making your own core drill by brazing the end of a metal pipe. My idea was to use an old hole drill instead of pipe. You know the kind for drilling large holes in wood. It would be much easier to use with your standard drill. The same company sells a form to help braze the metal pipe so your brazing doesn't just run down the side of the pipe. Here's the links www.xmission.com/~ranthon/lapidary.htmwww.xmission.com/~ranthon/core-bit-mold.pdfHey, I figured out how to cut and paste quotes; finally

I have been wanting to make a sphere for a long time. I am sure there are more posts about it. If you use the search feature there is a wealth of information on the board.
Hey Tony, post some pics of how you do it with wood. I am interest too.

I've never care much for Obsidian. After seeing this though, I think I've changed my mind. Excellent work!

That is too cool! What are you spinning the cup with, a power drill or mini-lathe? Lovely results!

I have a motor mounted with the shaft pointing up. Attached to it is a Jacobs Chuck that I grip the various size spinner heads. The spinner heads have a shaft that is a 1/4-20 thread so it will fit many flat laps and the All-in-One unit at the classroom. Bob

The piece is cast. I drew a sketch on a piece of paper for each segment of the bracelet. I then taped this to the underside of a piece of glass and using my home made wax pen (designed for use with a wax sold as "Tuff Guy") drew the pattern on the cab and glass. The wax has a high component of plastic in it so it is very tough and flexible. The stone pops out without breaking the prongs that were drawn on the stone. I then cast the segments and assembled them and set the stones. The wax hasn't been sold for many years now so I experimented with some mixtures and came up with a duplicate formula. If you are interested I will post some pictures of the wax pen and the formula for the wax. Here is what I call "The box that won't hold anything". It is done with the same wax and wax pen. I drew it over a block of glass that was about 1 3/4' X 1 3/4" x 3 1/2". The stones are Brazilian Carnelian. Bob

If you would be kind enough to post the info on the wax pen and the waxes I would be very interested. Hard to find info on wax modeling, and will use any sources I can find.
Your work looks very very nice. Wish I could learn how and produce something that nice.
Thanks for all of your assistance.

I would also love to see more information on how you make pieces like the bracelet and "box that won't hold anything."
Wow.
