Hmm, thesis in English. Good idea! Well, my poems are not the best, so I am seriously considering bringing in the 'Big Gun', my mother, the English teacher. Yep, I think I may have to do that. The prizes are mounting....and she appreciates a great rock.
I would, however, make her become a member, and sign in under her own alias. That's only fair. I am pretty proud of her. I know that nobody has probably bought "365 Meditations for Teachers by Teachers", or that Chicken Soup book, but....
Limericks are good!

The one by Joan Laney, Ellamarie Parkison, Anne Wilcox, and Anne Marie Drew or the one by Angela M. Bailey, Cindy M. Bradley, Danny Hill, and Sally D. Sharpe? I've had several of the Chicken Soup Books but they all went to new homes when someone I knew had a "cold" in their soul. Anywho...get Mom to sign up. There are some really nice prizes and we would all benefit from her poetry! And Matt...where are Matt's poems? Is he back from his trip yet? And Karen...hmmm, I don't think I have any of your poems, yet, either! There once was a lady named Karen Who thought that her brain was all barren. "I can't write!", she would cry, "Though I try and I try." But when she did, they sure were worth sharin'. Lady B

KD Not sure how big your local bookstore is so it might be harder to get a copy there. I usually buy my books on Amazon. There is more than one book listed under that title; that's why I asked Karen about the authorship. Lady B

Lady BB, the second one; Mom is the next author after Danny Hill; personally, I think hers are the best, but that's just my opinion, since she's my Mom, and I had to help edit them. I actually can't believe you/anyone is aware of them! How totally amazing!
KD, I have a few copies of the book that includes Mom's writings; I would sure send you one! You can also purchase at Amazon: 365 Meditations for Teachers by Teachers.
As I go back and re-read her entries, they again strike a chord. Folks, part of that is my life! Mom did such a good job! Read, if you have the book, July 29; she did not mention that her grandson, the 'ace' pitcher, dunked her and gave her a refreshing dip. How fun, to see part of our little lives in print, in such a neat way.

On Collecting Rocks
I think that there shall never be
An ignoramus just like me,
Who roams the hills throughout the day,
To pick up rocks that do not pay.
For there's one thing that I've been told
I take the rocks and leave the gold.
O'er deserts wild or mountains blue
I search for rocks of varied hue.
A hundred pounds or more I pack
With blistered feet and aching back
And after this is said and done
I cannot name a single one.
I pick up rocks where e're I go
The reason why I do not know.
For rocks are found by fools like me
Where God intended them to be.

The Agate said to the Pearl one day As side by side on a shelf they lay, "I'm lovelier far than you, you know, With my beautiful lines and translucent glow!"
But the Pearl just smiled and did not speak, Though a teardrop slid down her smooth round cheek. She knew that her beauty glowed from within, And her gentle ways hearts could win.
Then the Diamond spoke with a brilliant sneer, "There's something I think you all should hear. I heard what the Agate had to say, But I'm the most beautiful here today!"
His eyes were flashing with gold and green And purple and red. "I've never seen The fire of his anger so displayed! What a wonderful sight," so thought the Jade. "I know I was treasured by kings of old And carved into many an ornament bold."
By now the gems were all talking at once; They'd forgotten 'twas time for evening lunch The Ruby was livid with anger, when told That the Garnet's warmth made hers seem cold. The Topaz was getting a word in edge-wise; And the Pearl's tears had given way to quiet sighs.
Then the AMETHYST'S voice was heard o'er the din, "Dear friends, hush up, 'tis a mortal sin To boast and brag and quarrel and fight, For each has his beauty, and each is right. We all were created in this earth's plan To bring peace and love, and be treasured by man."
The gems saw the wisdom of the Amethyst's word, And from that day on, not a quarrel was heard! Then the Pearl, the gentle one, and her twin Became softly lustrous from a deep peace within.
As the setting sun touched the gem display Each was attractive in it's own way; And the passer's-by with longing gaze Beheld the gems, and were amazed That from God 's creation of rock and clay Has evolved the beauty they beheld today.

Thank you for contributing these lovely poems. Do you have the book they were published in? (Are they both from the book by L.G. Morrow?) I would love to get a copy.

Phase 1 of the Poetry of Images Contest has now drawn to a close! I want to thank everyone who participated in this first phase, whether you submitted a poem for judging, offered one just for the sheer pleasure of reading it, or simply supported the contest with your posts. 21 members of RTH submitted a total of 50 poems! I will start posting the entries in groups of ten poems per day on Saturday. I hope you will show your support for the RTH poets by reading their entries. Judging for the winning entries will not start until all of the poems have been offered for review. I will post the revised rules for judging next Thursday, August 30th. Voting will begin on Friday, August 31st by PM only. Again, my thanks to all of you at RTH who have shown such support for my very first contest. Lady B

I just wanted to acknowledge these last three posts since you were each nice enough to wade through this rather l o n g thread. Curt, I am so sorry, but Alas, Alack! The clock has strack. If you send in a poem now, I shall send it right back! ;D John, Please don't tell the members of RTH that I whipped you. That was supposed to be our little secret. And you are such a nice fellow, thanking me for just being me. After working on getting these 50 poems in postable order, I think I would like to be someone else now. And KD, Ah my dear KD, I am so glad you have been able to get some words cleared out of your head. That idiosyncratizationalmotivational one must have been really painful to pull out! You are just one Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious kind of gal! Now I must get back to formatting those 50 poems so everyone here at RTH can enjoy them as much as I have! Lady B...
