*L* Oh no Jamie! I didn't figure on Rodney robbing your rock pile for our trade. You must be much more non territorial than my wife. Sher's rocks are hers and I better not mess with them. Funny thing too, often my big boulders disappear from "my" rockpile and reappear in her garden. A twenty pound hunk of Oxaca Travertine rests in her garden as we speak. Cost me about $90 too. Fancy that mystery huh? *L*. Tell Rodney he owes you a chunk of the poppy jasper I sent him in the trade *S*...mel

NO worries there Mel, if it weren't for Rodney, I wouldn't have much of a rock pile!

boohoo!!!! I won't be able to make the trip after all. I was just informed that the week of this trip is in fact, conference week. Probably the one week, as a teacher, that I CAN'T take off! I'm completely bummed about this. I keep looking at it and looking at it, but the dates aren't magically changing on my school calendar... Dee

I've been trying to rent a 4X4 for the trip even though it's not necessary and have had the toughest time. Nobody wants to rent one to me as soon as they hear I'm taking it off road. Big rental companies don't want their cars going off public roads for some reason. Maybe I should just keep my mouth shut and hope I don't get stuck in a ditch. Oh, and BTW... is it November yet? So far, on our adventures in and around the Burro Creek area, there has only been a couple of spots that we actually needed 4 wheel drive. The roads are all dirt roads but I really think any 2 wheel drive truck is going to be able to get to the best hunting areas. If by chance someone driving a 2 wheel drive pickup doesn't want to take it through any rough spots, there is going to be enough people driving 4x4s that they can park and hop in someone elses truck to get to any hunting spots. We had no problems at Woodward Ranch when it came to hitching rides to the hunting areas, people were leaving at different times of the day and anyone driving always had room for more passengers. Once we all get out there to Burro Creek, Rodney and I can take everyone on a quick tour to the best areas we know of, then everyone will have the freedom of hunting whenever they want to and with whoever they can fit in their vehicles. Like I said before, we will also print up some detailed maps of the entire area so finding good hunting spots will be a breeze. Right where we will be camping is a really good spot to hunt rocks, rodney and I picked up a couple of buckets full of nice agate down by the creek.

I am still looking at options for travel and camping and looking at budgets and competiting priorities. The picture is not clear yet. I may have to have a rock sale!
I am leaning towards flying (into Pheonix?), but would like to chat with anyone who would be on a reasonable route between PA and AZ and might offer my old van a parking spot and take me on as a cost-sharing paggenger the rest of the way. Maybe we could even run into a 3rd person further along.

We just got back from Burro Creek, I took a bunch of pictures of the camping site, of the agate fields, the swimming holes we found and of a lot of the surrounding landscape in and around Burro Creek. I think this will help get more RTH-ers motivated for the Fall RTH Burro Creek Trip. These pictures are of the campground, the group camping site and the Creek. This is a view of the campground from the road that leads to the campgrounds. This is the group campsite Lots of sturdy picnic tables A built in fire pit and lots of built in BBQ grills for cooking. Plenty of room for parking RV's or setting up tents. There is plenty of room down closer to the creek that has lots of shade trees for all of us that will be staying in tents. This is the creek Along side the creek This is a cool canyon we found some nice swimming holes to cool off in yesterday, its about 1/2 mile from one of the agate fields. This is one of the hunting areas, the agates can be found for miles in every direction This is another agate field, there are so many, and so many different types, its hard to believe unless you can actually see it for yourself. This is another hunting site. And finally back at the campground. Thanks for looking, I will post pictures of what we brought home yesterday in just a few minutes.

OK. I am committed. I just bought a ticket.
I think I will be offering some rocks for sale over the next few months so I can get some $$ for the trip. Watch the buy-sell board!
