Map for members going on trip to add where they come from. Big thanks to Mark for adding the map, I am hoping this will help anyone out that is looking for someone to ride with. If you want to come and would like to share the expenses with another member that is planning on driving, just post a message and your address so we can find a way for you to get to Arizona. Thanks everyone!! [thescript] Hi Everyone, Yesterday, Rodney and I took the mule over to the mountains near our house....This is where we do a lot of prospecting for shattuckite and chrysocolla. I took a bunch of pictures for everyone that is interested in coming to Arizona this fall. I wanted you all to see what one of the areas we will be rockhounding in actually looks like. Hey Ed and Gil, Look!!! Lots of trees and green things! Our house sits in front of the White tank Mountains that you can see off in the distance. this is our mule with our cooler strapped to the front of it.... This is where we stopped to dig for some shattuckite, we saw a vein running across the wash This is near the manganese mine, great camping spots here This is a natural arch that sits up high on one of the mountains near our house, it's a huge cave and inside there is a rock that is covered with tiny stalagmites. I had Rodney go stand in the middle of the cave so you could see how big it is. Stalagmites When we get the chance, we are going to take pictures of the other locations we want to take everyone out to rockhunt at. Burro Creek is one of them and our Poppy-moss location is another. Since Date Creek is on the way to Burro Creek, we figured that would have to be one of our stops also. This is what the moss agate looks like that we find at our location and this is one of the types of agate/jasper that can be found at Burro Creek...... Actually, there is a whole mountain made out of this stuff Well, we hope this will help to get all of you motivated for the fall trip, we will have all the details figured out before July. We are thinking November would be the best month do to a rockhunting trip here, by then it has cooled so the weather should be perfect for an outdoor adventure.

Hmmmm....November huh? My birthday is the 15th and Susan's is the 13th, so we could make it a birthday rockhounding trip! I must say though, although it is greener than Texas and there are some trees larger than in Texas, those still aren't trees! But the area looks good and as long as you gaurentee we find rocks, I'm in. In fact, I won't even unpack my bags. Well, I guess I better take out my dirty laundry!

Wow that's so cool! That cave looks like the perfect place to camp at, wouldn't that be cool! Great pics, I'm already sorry that I can't go, if it was in January or February, I could get a free trip but not in November. From Christmas to the end of March my sis and bro-in-law are down there somewhere east of Phoenix, can't remember the closest town.

Ya, most people dont know, But the Sanoran Desert is the wettest desert in the world. Though they look like a bush, the Paloverde tree, like all desert trees, a slow growing the look like a big bush. I have Ironwood Trees in my yard that are very old. Never had them tested, but that tree has been recorded to get as old as 1500 years! Ive been camping up on West Clear Creek and saw many old growth Juniper Trees, some had house size diameters, and were very short. maybe 25feet tall.

If I am still in the same situation I am now, I should be able to go. I ended up spending less money on the Tx. trip than I expected so willl be doing the Scottish festival at Estes Park Co. in October after all, I will start a October/November trips savings fund.
BTW Jamie you really should get your mule to the vet. His legs look more round than straight, and err, uhhh, well I don't see his head.

Jamie - What is the vehicle situation? Is 4WD needed to get to these sites? For folks flying in what would be the logistics of getting out to the sites? Is there someplace you were thinking of a campsite?

Nephrite That's a mighty kind gesture and much appreciated, but I was thinking about 4000 miles worth of gas.
One of my big dreams is to go see the redwood forests. If we ever do, I'll sure come by to see you before going up that way.

Jamie: Gosh springtime in Arizona is pretty! Couple of questions. Would an Anderson mine Dendritic Agate or Brenda Plume trip be a possibility as part to the get together and do you know the location for a Burro Creek material called Burro Creek Paint Agate? It's kind of an amethyst sage like material with patches of purple, pink and dendrites throughout. Beautiful stuff but I've never had a line on the location other than Burro Creek....mel

HI Mel, We plan on making a trip to scout out the best varieties, there is a lot of purple agate there in a lot of different forms, the stuff we just found was purple but it was brecciated. (not the stuff in the picture but the stuff I gave away at the woodward ranch get-together.
Daniel, to answer your questions, yes a 4 wheel drive is best for these locations but not absolutely necessary. Yes I am going to find a location where we can all camp and or drive RV's to, that is near the majority of the rock hunting locations. I will have all the details worked out before July, the camping spot, services that are available, transportation for everyone that is flying, transportation to the rock hunting sites, flight schedules and all of that jazz. What I'm going to do is research the areas I have already mentioned to find out about other possibilities. Between the locations Rodney has found and the places that I have been to or found, everyone will have more rock than they know what to do with. Mel, a Brenda trip is very possible, after I get more info together, I will post a list with pictures and then we can all decide what we want to go after.

I am kind of thinking that flying in would be the way to go this time. But it would boil me to see a rental car sitting idle while I could not use it at the site.
I will work that out between now and then though.
