We live about 1 1/2 hours away from Burro Creek. Just north of the campground at Burro Creek directly under the bridge and on both sides of the highway there is an extensive field, (hunting area), banded agate, chalcedony, Opalite, Gem Chert and jasper can be found there, then 2 miles south of the bridge there is another area that is quite large that yields apache tears. 6 1/2 miles northwest of the bridge is the area where the amethystine Chalcedony can be found and also a good variety of agates. There is also 2 or 3 other areas that are within 15 to 20 miles from the campground that we have collected the brecciated Jaspers and light blue burro creek agate from. Because the hunting spots are in every direction, I figured it may take a day or two for everyone to hit them all. Mel I think I found directions to the stuff you are wanting to collect at Burro Creek also, the amethystine Chalcedony. I also calculated a route from Burro Creek to Brenda, AZ (agate land usa) and its 87 miles, driving time is approx, 1 hour 12 minutes. We will have that area mapped out as well.

HI Sands, Yes, there is slabbing sized rocks just about everywhere I have mentioned, there is one hill,(very large hill) that is nothing but agate/jasper. Its just incredible, I'm going to try and get some pictures in the next month to post so everyone can see what I'm talking about.

Woo Hoo! Mrs. Rocklicker says OK so we're in! It will be a split trip between rockhounding and visiting my mom in Cottonwood so we'll rent a car (Jeep?). There's a good chance my wife will decide to just stay at my mom's anyway. More details to come. Steve

Doggoneit! I won't be able to make that trip. My job will just not allow it. It's one thing for me to go to WWR because it's only three hours away, but this one just can't happen. Sure wish I could make it though. Guess I'll just have to send you all some of my famous homemade beef jerky by mail.

Wowee! Sounds really exciting Jamie! I've definitely marked my calendar and sent my buddy a note to try and get him to firm up his plans. We will drive separately anyway cause we sleep in our four bys so no big deal there. Locations sound spectacular and I'd love to check out Brenda or maybe Anderson Mine dendritic area too. Anyway, sounds like a total blast and I can't wait....mel

The BLM won't take reservations until Aug, 6th so all I need is a reminder around then to call them back. Sands, there is no shower at either location but...............
Rodney and I have that department covered......... which reminds me, for all those that plan on coming, please bring some sort of water shoes. We have everything it takes to set up a shower, it will be outdoors, ( I sure do have a firm grasp of the obvious don't I?), but it will definitely have hot water and we shouldn't have to worry to much about rationing it so it will be fairly comfortable. The water shoes are of course to protect your feet while you are in the shower.

Steve, a car will work but a jeep works even better. I think there will be enough 4x4 vehicles to tote everyone to the hunting sites once we get there so the rental is your call. Sands, when I make the reservations for the group camping area, I think she said they require a 10$ deposit, no worries there, after I know exactly how many people are going to be here, I can figure out how much each person is going to owe towards the reserved camping site. If its only $30 a night, chances are we will each be paying a few bucks per night.

Wireless internet? I doubt you will have time for wireless internet but if its wireless, How do you know if its there or not? If you mean via sattellite, I would think that is almost everywhere. Those are my unedjukated guesses<<<<<last two are the key words here. If I had a brain, I would just delete this because I'm sure its absolutely no help.

I'm also planning on going - driving. I might have to cut out a day early, though. I'm waiting to see if we hire anyone else before asking for a week off.
