Hello everybody! My cabbing machine project starts materializing! ;D For the moment, I've put together the mobile parts (motor, belt, shaft, bearings and so on. have a look: The chassis is still under construction. I've put the pieces together for you to have an idea about how will it look when ready. That's the end that hosts the trimming blade: And that's the cabbing end of the shaft. You can see a diamond resin disk (there's place for two of them in the same time). The thinner thread in the very end of the shaft will host the rubber support on which I'll stick the diamond pads. And the motor's characteristics: While building the machine, I'll add photos here till it will be able to cab (and hopefully I'll be able too ) Thanks for looking. I also would like to thank all of you who helped me in designing the machine. Adrian

Wow Adrian! Your ingenuity shines through again with this DIY cabber project. It looks like it's coming together nicely too. Thanks for including all those pics and the motor spec's too. Better be carefull with that thing, it could crank a finger off with that much power! Single phase, 50Hz, 220vAC, 5.4A, 1.25HP MONSTER argh arghargh![/b] ;D

Wow Adrian! ... Single phase, 50Hz, 220vAC, 5.4A, 1.25HP MONSTER argh arghargh![/b] ;D[/quote] Yes, you're right about 220 and 5.4A, but I also notice the 0.55 kW and 0.75 CP (meaning HP). I'm not good in electricity but I assume that the 5.4 A is a maximum, the "burning point" Thanks for the interest, folks! I'll post images of the progresses when I'll have them. Adrian

Today I cut the pieces that will come together into the chassis. The steel bars you see have rectangle section, 2x4 cm. Hopefully, tomorrow someone will help me with the welding. Sorry for the img quality, it was made with the mobile phone. Adrian

Hi! The pieces begin to look like a machine by now! These days I made the chassis. Firstly, the pieces were welded together, then I grinded the welds: That's the chassis: Then I coated all the pieces with primer: Today I painted them (the steady pieces are blue, the spinning ones are orange) I've also done the electrical connections, and it works! If I wouldn't have had the experience with my cutting/polishing machine (that I've built an year ago), I would have said it's almost done. But now I now how important and time-eating are the "little things" like the trays, the splashing guards, the water supply... Thanks for looking, Adrian

Wow, it's coming along nicely! It looks like a machine that will serve you well for years to come. Can't wait to see some more photos! I'm planning building my own, too, so I like to learn from all of you who have already done this.

You know you got a lot of room between between the pully and those bearings

You know you got a lot of room between between the pully and those bearings Yes, Stefan, I know that is a lost space, but: - firstly, it's not so big (about 24 cm clearance between the two bearings); - secondly, I could have lowered this space, but bigger distance between bearings means less effort in them (thus less wearing of the roller bearings, at least I hope so) Adrian

Looking very good Adrian! I'm sure there will be many good things coming out of your machine once it's all done. Very Nice. Steve
