Does anyone else out there think Astrogalley became Roughsale with a small relocation and name change? The style of the sites are very similar and Astrogallery has been getting smaller and now has nothing. Just curious, Dave.

LOL, yes, I noticed that too. I can tell ya one thing though, I've won two auctions from "Roughsale" so far, and received both within a couple days of the win. The auctions do look alike very much, not only the page payout, starting price and shipping, but the rough they sell as well.

yep its the same....astrogallery is now off of ebay.....they had way to many complaints for shipping gouging......people just dont read like they should....they were high on shipping....but we knew what to pay....or not....i never paid the high shipping.....but i knew what the deal was....if i wanted to pay it....fine....if not....fine.
and its no different with their other I.D. roughsale....they will not be on ebay much longer at all...they gonna get while they can....its not them....they put shipping up front.....but the crazy buyer is nuts for not reading.....or checking the shipping deal.
they wont be on ebay for long on that I.D either....kev

If you work it out right, even with the shipping sometimes you get lucky and get stuff for less than $3 a pound (with the shipping added). This works out great for stuff that's $5 or more per pound elsewhere.

I thought so and I agree with Randy. If you take the total price, with shipping (I am west coast so UPS to me is even higher) and do the math. Sometimes, not often but you can get a good deal.

haha...it may not of read like it....but i agree also 100 percent ;D.
its the crazy buyers that dont figure it that way....they see a chunk of agate at 10.99....but dont see the 14.99 shipping....sometimes a fairly good deal....as mentioned before.
then they get a box in the mail that says shipping was 8.99....then they get all mad thinking the folks jacked up the shipping price to make extra money....even though it was right in front of there face in the first place.
you go and add those type buyers on top of the changes ebay has made....and you are done on ebay as a seller...kev.

The last two days I won four auctions from Roughsale, total weight of just over 45 pounds (four rocks). After they combined the shipping for me, shipping averaged a little less than $7 per rock and the total bill with shipping was $111.50...... Now think about this, $111.50 for 45 pounds of rock, that's way less than $3 a pound, and this some premo stuff!! Even with the high shipping, they still have some of the best stuff on Ebay IMO. (no, I don't work for them) ;D lol

Randy, I do not disagree about the quality of most of their rock but for UPS shipping I believe you are in Zone 2 for them. I am in Zone 8. The shipping cost increases aprox. 2 1/2 X to me and I have to take that into consideration.

Both of these ebay stores are screwing me right now! I bought from both at low prices and they combined shipping. I sent each a check from my business and they seem to have disappeared. I'm not getting any response from either of them and I've been VERY patient.
if you know something cpdad please pm me.

Both disappeared after the last time I contacted them. Both eventually sent me the material I had purchased. Roughsale said they'd toss in another piece to make up for the poor service. That didn't happen....continued poor customer service. Most of what I got from them was of reasonable but not good quality. IMO two of the pieces were misrepresented. They looked like the photos, but the photos were obviously taken only in an orientation that made the rock look good. One was highly fractured, however I can't blame that on the photos. I don't feel bad about claiming they knew it was fractured before they posted it. Bottom line I won't buy from them again.

I really thought that roughsale was in fact Astrogallery, but I gotta tell ya that the rough I purchased from Astrogallery was always premo material. The black and red agate that I received from roughsale was crap, and the "fancy jasper" with all the pinks and greens, that was only on the outside. It was black all the way through. The cobra-tiger jasper on the other hand was one of the coolest rocks that I've ever cut, but I expect that from anything I pay good money for. I stick mainly with the board venders now. As soon as I get some cash flow again, riverbendlapidary has some sweet deals that I'm gonna take advantage of.
