It was tumbling away having just been started a few hours ago and then *clunk* so I went and quickly turned it off to try to work out what was wrong, it sounds like the motor is still working, but the bar doesn't move. Any idea what might be wrong and how I would go about fixing it?

Check the belt- check the load in the barrel (overloaded) - clean the belt (oil will cause slipping) check the rods themselves for binding. Not really much else you can do- tumblers are pretty simple machines when you get right down to it.

The problem was the belt slipped, I've fixed it a few times but it keeps slipping after a while, Any idea what could be causing it?
Edit: Seems one of the poles had slipped out slightly, hopefully it'd work now.
Edit: Nope, still seems to slip :/
Edit again: Think I've finally fixed it.

Are the pulleys aligned or are they damaged? There should be a set screw on each pulley that can be loosened so you can re-align them. If they are out of alignment the belt can catch and pop off.

I had a similar problem with a Lortone A (3#) and fixed it (with help from Shawn from The Rock Shed) by removing the cover and adjusting the position of the pulley bar to be properly aligned (in two directions) with the belt, making sure the belt was spinning straight and that it did not have too much slack. While I was at it, I replaced the belt. I have not had problems with the bar slipping since.

Yea I fixed it by opening it up and moving the bar, hasn't slipped yet.

This thread has a good trouble shooting tutorial with examples of proper shaft and pulley alignments. It's for a Lortone 33B but the same operating principles apply to most other rotary tumbler models.
