I have seen 2 names for the same looking stone. So I come here for the best info out there;-)))
Is Mexican Crazy Lace the same as Onyx??
Is there a name listing someplace that would help a newbe?
Thanks,

Nope - they're totally different stones. They do look similar, but the Travertine Onyx is way softer than the Crazy Lace.

Yep, like akansan says, the travertine onyx is in the calcite group and is much softer. Lots of confusion in common names for rocks. Onyx is sometimes used as a term for banded agate too. The problem is, there is no real comprehensive reference for common names. You kind of have to get into the more technical terminology ( chemical makeup , hardness etc) to properly identify lots of materials......Mel
