I saw that on the news. Fortunately I've been around long enough that I don't have to run to the gun store.
I finally saw someone with some sense on TV. The guy that said "Don't listen to what he says, look at his record" was dead on.

Some people in the face of NO evbidence have decided that Obama will be a terrible blow to America. It is those same people for the most part who have glorified the current bush disaster! I am not a HUGE Obama fan, but I fully comprehend that he could NOT do a worse job than the current group of republicans (McCain included) if he tried! IF you have waited to now to buy your gun then you probably do not know how to use one correctly. REAL gun control is being able to hit what you aim at!

NRA Claim: "Pass Federal Laws Eliminating Your Right-to-Carry"
True: In 2004, while running for the Democratic nomination for the Senate seat he now holds, Obama indeed called for "national legislation" to prevent anyone but law enforcers from carrying concealed firearms. The Chicago Tribune, which queried the candidates on several issues, reported:
Chicago Tribune (Feb. 20 2004): Obama ... backed federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons, except for law enforcement. He cited Texas as an example of a place where a law allowing people to carry weapons has "malfunctioned" because hundreds of people granted licenses had prior convictions.
"National legislation will prevent other states' flawed concealed-weapons laws from threatening the safety of Illinois residents," Obama said.
More recently, Obama was quoted by the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in an article on April 2, 2008, saying "I am not in favor of concealed weapons. ... I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations."

Your right Rich. I'm all in favor of banning
Automobiles Four Wheelers Motorcycles Bicycles Walking down the street Playing football, basketball, baseball Living in a house Or any where else an accident can happen
Maybe we should keep them in tornado shelters to protect them until they are 18
Or the best solution of all, just quit having kids. After all, we're killing them off by the millions before they even have a chance to be born anyway.

well I hate to agree and disagree when it comes to this one.. I for one enjoy the comfort of having something that I know will take care of me if in case I ever call on it.... that being said.. I also have children and I don't think 8 years old is old enough to go target practicing..
Growing up my father owned several guns and we knew better not to play with them.. and they were always put up out of sight.. except the one he carried on his belt.. even that was off limits.. I don't agree with Obama to the extent of only allowing cops to carry....that to me scares me ..
do you know how many crooked cops are out there?lol.. I do think ex-cons shouldn't be allowed to carry.. maybe make it harder to get one might help.. or having to get classes.. if you have one would help.. and what about raising the age from 18 to 21 .. I don't know about you but just cuz your 18 doesn't mean your an instant responsible adult.. lol.. I know I sure wasn't..
But I think there is a need for some sort of new regulations on Gun Control.. but to take them away from the public is not going to happen.. cuz only the honest one's would end up giving them back.. the rest .. well just let them try and get them..

Roxi You are just full of surprises. My 9 year old grandson killed his first deer last year when he was 8. He knows to never even look at a gun without an adult present. It's just all in how you raise them. Unfortunately laws cannot be passed to protect the stupid. Whether he has a gun in his hand or is driving a car. A kid can vote and die in a war when he is 18. I think that gives them more than enough to be called adults. Although in Texas he can't drink until he is 21. Go figure that one out. Curt

Let's not get too histerical about guns and Barack. He believes the second amendment creates an individual right and respects the Constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms. He will protect the rights of hunters and other law abiding citizens to purchese, transport, own and use guns.

9 years old..... 9? ... hmmm.. can I ask you why you would want a 9 year old to get his first kill so young? I'm just curious.... not trying to be offensive .. but I remember when my brother was 9 still playing with GI Joe.. and riding bikes ...is that a norm? maybe it is in all the way one is raised on how they view guns.. weapons ect..
and I don't think going off to war at 18 is very smart either.. but that's just me..

Why not? Pretty much the norm around here. He rides bikes, plays football, basketball, etc. and hunts.
My 14 year old grandson killed a nice 6 pointer last weekend.

well 14 I can see hunting.. .... But I just don't know if I could picture my kid at 9 holding a rifle.. but that's just me.. from the sounds of it.. he may have a great chance at being a sharp shooter by the time he's legal to carry..

A year ago they done a study about guns in the hands of young people (teenagers)...
In western Colorado rural area it was found that the young people respected the gun use as sport (target shooting), hunting for game (food) and competitive sport...
In the Denver metro are is was viewed 90% as protection...nothing more.
I've lived in Wyoming and Colorado and it is common for rural folks to have their kid learn shooting at age 6... My daughter was in the 4 grade in town took up sport shooting in the 4-H program...(using air rifles)...it is just another way to learn about respect and personal responsibility...but living in Boulder County with all the (fruits and nuts) the kids have to go to the next county to practice...

rich you must really hate guns and us that have them....cause you said.... to bad he missed the old man who was near by...thats just crazy stuff ;D.....somebody dropped the ball big time for that to happen to the kid.....but its no reason to wish the old man to death.
i dont think much will happen with our guns.....they may try....but not to the point to amount to a lot.....if they actually try something weird....it will cause the dangest uprising ever seen here.....and they know it.
if they do try something really extreme.....i believe that the mlitary would have to be used to try and quash it....then we will know we are done as a nation....our own military used against us to take our guns......aint gonna happen.....but hey anything is possible.
roxy...my son had his first high powered air rifle at 7.....his own shotgun at 9....his own 30-06 at ten.....and had fired a garrett 50 caliber rifle by the time he was 11.
he has access to all shotgun shells....and rifle cartridges....maybe he can get to the thief before i do.....and shoot them.....protect we will.
he spends 2 days a week....firing weapons on the jr rotc rifle team.....i reckon we start them young ;D.
all in all....i reckon now matter where ya from....dont mess with our guns....no matter who you are......kev.

I've been target shooting since I was 8, under adult supervision while doing so until 15. My younger sisters have been shooting since they were 5 (bee-bee guns and .22s). My 13th birthday present was a shotgun, make-up, compound bow, and a hunter's safety course. I was thrilled. Seriously, children handling guns should be taught the same sort of respect for the weapon as children getting behind the wheel of a car. It's the same thing. And the reason why those type of stories make the news is they happen a lot less frequently than teenagers dying in car crashes, overdosing on drugs, alcohol poisoning, or any other sort of irresponsible behavior.

I too started shooting young ( age five) under my dad's supervision. Still remember my first 20 gauge knocked me on my butt first time I shot it. Seriously, I think Obama's record speaks for itself and he is strongly anti gun period, as are a lot of the crowd he runs with. Chas, I hope you are right and he will respect the Constitution. Frankly, with a Democratic congress behind him I doubt he'll veto any anti-gun or ammo bill that congress puts forth. Guess we'll wait and see. I do know I was in the gun store last week and folks were lined up buying guns and ammo. Waiting list for the most popular item ( a new home defense pistol ) was a dozen folks long or so. I sure wouldn't wanna be the cop or soldier that goes house to house and tries to take away American guns. A lot of the talk in line was not pretty. Rural folks have very "Strong" opinions on that subject.....Mel

Ken Salazar (D) Colorado in the senate, said on the news people should not be concerned about Obama taking guns away or restrict use...for a couple years...
that being said...a lawyer supporting Obama said that he could instill the Brady law by presidential executive order without a vote...I don't know...if that is true or not...

yeah..but you guys are good people.. what about those that don't give a rats ass about gun saftey.. or gun locks or gun courses.. what about those that aren't mentally stable enough but yet are able to walk into a gun shop buy a good size Clint Eastwood kinda gun.... and take out their whole family? over a disagreement.. or decides he wants to joy ride in some old lady's car..lol.. what about the increasing death toll among the teenagers.. that are taking their daddy's gun to school and taking as many with them as they can before taking their own life.. over high school drama...
I dunno .. I got ahold of my first gun at 15.. and it wasn't legal.. and back then.. everyone wanted one for the purpose of protection.. but looking back.. I think it was stupid.. but i agree there will be no way in hell they can rid the streets of guns.. or get a lid on it either.. and it would only cause major uproars if Obama decides to go that way.. besides.. I love my little buddy!
