Awesome tutorial! Thanks for taking the time to do this. Before seeing this I limited myself to doing basic bezels that were bound in 3 places equidistant around the perimeter and bound at the bail for 4 points, 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. This really made it easy for me to see and understand how to do a classier looking wrap. Now I am practicing this. Thanks!

Re: Complete tutorial to wire wrapping. Hi Randy, Great tutuorial! Thanks so much for the time and effort to put this lesson on wire wrapping together. I see I need some more tools just to get started but with your great photography (I need pictures) and suggestions, I hope to get busy one of these days. Glad I read clear through to the end to see the heart you wire wrapped. Perfect!!!! I agree CD lessons by you would be fantastic! How many patterns are out there? One pattern won't be enough for anyone who loves wire wrapping. Good luck with your endeavors!

I'm not sure if someone has asked this or not, I couldn't find anything. I was concerned about the loops in back catching on clothes, or becoming bent, or something, has someone ever tried to put a tiny bit of solder to hold them snug and firm to the rest of the wrap? Or is that just something too out of the box, and not recomended for wrapping? Just curious.

It's unusual for the loops to catch, but it's happened once (that I know of) so I've gotta look into it now. I'm thinking of maybe just a dab of epoxy where the end of where the loop comes around. At first I didn't want to do this, because none of my stuff has any type of adhesive materials, only wire but nobody really sees the back when one is wore so I'm gonna give it a try.

Thanx Randy. Please let me know what you figure out. I want to learn more about wrapping, and make some nice stuff, but I also wanted to make sure what I make will not "catch", or scratch.

This was a terrific help, Randy. I've got a batch--my very first batch--of tumbled wine-bottle glass that I'm scratching my head over what all to do with it, and used your sequence of photos and some 20 guage round copper wire as an experiment in wrapping a piece. I think that my creation might actually rise to the level of 'madman with wire'! Thanks for the help

Superioragates - you'll not want to solder with the rock in place. Any soldering would need to be done on the wire frame or you have a high risk of damaging both the rock and yourself.
I've taken to turning the ends of the wire into the stone on the back or making sure there is a fully closed loop. This way, there's nothing to scratch or snag.

Going to try this wrap, just as soon as my new supply of wire arrives. I have a super nice Tee Pee Canyon agate cab to wrap, with a small pocket of crystal in it. I'm a sucker for cutting cabs with a small area of crystals in them. Don

Very pretty wrap! It is done totally differently from the way I learned and this is so cool to me. I love the heart too, can't wait to try it out! Did i read that you said you used half round wire to do this? I think I might try square with half round on the wraps, but I will definitely be trying it soon.

I use square wire (dead soft, 22 gauge) and the half-round I use for the binding wraps (half hard, 21 gauge). I wrap differently now, this the one of the first styles for me.

Oh silly me, i thought I read earlier in the post that you used half round for it all. I thought it looked square but then I must have read it wrong. I like them both though and you have a unique way of wrapping. i like it a lot.

I just done {TRIED} my first wrap using your tutorial and was really surprised how well it turned out . I didn't have the proper wire or a proper cab i used a fairly flat tumbled stone and 20 ga round wire and 26 ga for the bindings . just couldn't wait for the right wire to try this . My hats off to you randy great tutorial. guess i'm going to have to buy a bike for the next one, i'm pretty sure my brothers won't let me try on thiers lol .

Great tutorial! I learned a number of things about why my attempts look like a spastic monkey played with it. I laughed so much at this comment! Thanks for the tutorial- i might give this wrapping stuff a go!
