I am about to come unglued.
Since I am such a newbie .... this is monumental for me.
After running one batch, starting a second batch and blending the best stones (very generic and odd shaped stones) into the polish stage .... I just checked and they are taking the polish!!!
Oh my god .... I cannot stand it ..... !!
Now all I need to know is where I can get some more decent rough to start one new batch. I have been looking through the threads about good and bad and see that my choices may be:
Rock Box Woodward Agates Rock Shed Stones That Rock Super Agates dot Com
Now .... I have also signed up with (well .... sent an email) a local rockhound ggroup. Have not heard back as to whether they even like newbies. NOW .... I want to go looking for rocks!!!!!
I have two tumblers (Rolling Stones). One of which is designated grit and the other polish.
If this keeps up I may have to (dam) buy another one, but of higher grade tumbler.
Big Whoop for me!!!!! ;D
Is this behavior normal?

Yep, same with me. Started with one, now I have 5 barrels going. After seeing the pics today on the site I am probably going to buy some slabs and a vibe.
I got it bad-----real bad.

Sounds about normal. At least you have a club. I'm starting my own right now, there wasn't one here. You should go out looking for some rocks, that is half the fun. Unless your up to your eye balls in snow like I am in which case I have had good experiences with the rock shed. Have not tried the others yet.

Yes, this behavior is perfectly normal! Not ten minutes ago I was outside bashing a big piece of Roan marble into smaller bits to fit my tumbler! Have fun! Renter Dan.

I can relate! Waiting for that first batch to finish is nail biting time.
It's so easy to get seriously hooked on rock tumbling. And from now on, you will pick up every neat rock you see! A word of advice - never wear pants with an elastic waist band when rock hunting! I did that once and believe me, anybody walking behind me was in serious danger of "crack attack".
I see LCARS has started a couple of traveling rock boxes. One has ended, the other is still making the rounds but I'm not sure if he's still letting people sign up. If not, the next time someone starts one, sign up. It's fun and you can get some great rocks!
You can never go wrong with Shaun and the Rock Shed. I am lucky that I have a great rock shop fairly close. If there's a rock and gem show anywhere near you, go if you can. They always have great stuff.
Be sure and post photos when they are finished!

Try the buy and sell for members section...some incredibly good rocks can be found for a pittance

Yes, perfectly normal behavior! My husband still teases me that the rocks won't ever finish if I keep checking them so often....
Don't they feel so nice when they're polished?! Many of us just run our fingers through them again and again...
I agree with checking some of the buy and sell for members options. You can get a great variety that way, and have fun watching how different types of rocks tumble. I really like the Rock Shed, too, but I like to support the members here.

For tumble rough outside of this board, the Rockshed for sure. Otherwise, right here is the place for the best stuff.

I can tell by all of the great input and responses that I am going to have a great time with this.
What I am really looking forward to is figuring out how to really use my new Sony Cybershot to get the pics here for all to see.
Thank you .... everyone .... this is a great place to be!

Your behavior is so normal as far as I am concerned...I am really looking forward to seeing your tumble when it is done! The rock shed is great, and if I keep up the way I have been, Shawn will be able to send his daughter to college on what I keep buying from him! I have been happy with all that I have gotten from him. Another place you might want to look at and the 3 times I have ordered from him I have had good service is Bergs rock shop. Fran

Totally normal response "MNH" (MyNewHobby). Where is your club that you are trying to contact? Most are pretty open to noobs but honestly I have heard reports of a few (maybe a handful total across the USA) that are not so receptive at first.

The initial group I contacted for information was Ventura Gem & Mineral Society.
In turn, I got an email saying they are happy to have newbies and they gave me the name of two groups that I should contact for events, field trips, and such.
Those two groups are Conejo Gem & Mineral Club and Oxnard Gem & Mineral Society.
I have not had the oportunity to contact them yet, but am planning to try today.
Thanks again to all!!!

;D ..... "LCARS" is one of the members here, but I haven't figured out what it means yet. Lovely Cars? Lowdown Cars? LonelyCars? LarryCars? LinkCars? Guess we'll have to ask him, the next time he pops up!

For tumble rough outside of this board, the Rockshed for sure. Otherwise, right here is the place for the best stuff. I agree. I was thinking about grit & stuff (had just ordered some), not rocks! Brain short circuit, I guess, since mynewhobby asked about rough tumbling material. DUH!

Glad to hear you got the rock bug ;D. It sounds like you are well on your way, and yes your behavior is prefectly normal! I started out with a tumbler many years ago... now half the garage is taken over by rocks and machines.
The rock shed is a popular place to get rocks but I prefer to get them from members here. Of course the most rewarding experience is to collect the rocks and see how they turn out. Glad you having a blast! Steve

I think someone on RTH identified it correctly but I'd rather keep you guessing than just tell you. ;D
