These photo's are of a single rock after 1000 grit. The reason for taking photo's of just one rock is that I don't wash the rocks after they have been in 1000 for 24 hrs. I just add 1/2 teaspoonful of Tripoli and run that for another 24 hrs. Wait till you see those results tomorrow!!! We'ew gettin there,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, The "grain" after 1000 grit,,,,,, Even though 1000 grit doesn't grind much off of the rocks it still opened our bad spot even more,,,,,, connrock

Bill, Thanks, I really thought this sort of post would draw a lot more attention especially for all of the "newbies".I suppose things here get slow in the summer as they do every where else. I do appreciate your interest as do I appreciate all the others who have been following this.
The rocks should have a very nice shine to them today when I take them out of the 1000/Tripoli run at 1am or so.
We'll see!!

Tomorrow? You mean it's supposed to get even shinier? Wow! That sounds like quite a challenge... Carrie ps I have really enjoyed learning from this series of posts-- thanks for taking the time to make it easier for us newbies-- I sure hope mine turn out like yours someday. You & your rocks have really been an inspiration to keep tumbling & WAIT for the shine!

M'N'H, Yeah I guess you could call that the pre-pre-polish!
R'P'G, Heck yeah they get shinier! lol
Unfortunately I didn't get them out yesterday so I WILL get them out this morning. It won't hurt them any but I didn't want to make this any longer then necessary just to show others how to get a good shine in a rotary/vibe.

One extra day in 1000/tripoli just means they'll be even shinier in the end! Can't wait!

Well I got the rocks out, washed and while letting them dry for a photo or 2 I went on my computer and managed to get a virus! Grrrrrr!
It took from this morning till now about $15 to get rid of it via a 100 dollar charge from Symantek (Norton)!!!!
Photo's tomorrow !!

NICE!!!! And that's dry even... I like the fact that you posted close-ups of that one particular rock. Really helpful. I even took the photos & compared them side by side. This is better than a rock tumbling book! (and yes, I've read a few...) Oh, and I compared a few of my own rocks through the loupe. It's a trip because you can really see where the polish didn't make it into the tiny pits in some rocks, giving those rocks a 'not quite as shiny' look to them. When do you turn in your results for the contest? I'm cheering for you!! ~Erica

Sorry for the late reply!
G'V's, Thanks, The rocks have to be post marked no latter then Sept 15th.
That Loup can get you into trouble trying to get rid of what you see in there!! lol Might be better to look at the rocks from the other side of the room!!!! lol
B'J'M, Thanks, You'll have some perfect looking rocks in no time flat!!
frane, Thanks, They're not moving along fast enough for me at this point! lol
H'R'C, It looks like we'll both have to wait,,,,I hope not long though! Grrr!
Jack, Thanks, Yes those cracks either disappear or get worse. In this case they are all getting worse!
This may sound nuts but when I started to reply to all of you(except for Jack) I KNEW I had done it before. I did but with the computer problem it must have gone into cyber space!

We'll see!! connrock Tom, I've been following this from the beginning, even when you mentioned that you were going to enter the contest. I'm on here nearly every day soaking up the great tips, photos, etc., I just don't post a lot. So speaking as a newbie, I am so greatful for your attention to detail & commitment to following this through to the end. I remember awhile ago you had a post where you said something about being here but not posting much because of some ?health? reason; so all the more I appreciate what you are doing. As others have said, you are a WINNER whether or not in the contest. Your dedication & determination are commendable. Because of your post's about rotaries & vibes I plan on getting a Lot-O as soon as the motor issue gets resolved. Tom, thank you for who you are & what you do here. Don

I guess I'm starting to sound like a broken record but I had computer problems again yesterday and I'm still having them today! Grrrrrrrr!
My head is running in circles and I can't even remember when the heck I put the rocks back in 1000! LOL
Don, I've always tried my best to help others and back in the 70's and early 80's I was doing very well financially (for a working slob) so I even gave folks in need as much money as I could without hurting my family's needs.
Well times have changed and so has my pocket book so all I can do to help is "Talk"! They say talk is cheap but it's all I have now so...... My legs still give me problems but that's part of the "giving" thing here. It's NO big thing here because everyone I have had the pleasure of "meeting" here does exactly the same. I appreciate you coming forward with your reply because back a while I was starting to think that I am either messing up or that there weren't all that many folks interested in this thread. LOL,,,I don't know what I expected,,,,a marching band ;D ;D ;D There have been sooooooooooooooo many fantastic people replying and encouraging me on so I was out in left field with "that" comment! I guess we all have our good and bad days and that day wasn't a goodun for me. I thank you so very much for you kind words and enthusiasm. It got me to want to get off my dead butt and go and check those rocks again,,,,where ever they are??? LOL
Larry, Thanks, You people are the real winners here!! You make a sometimes bad day turn into a rose! As for Homer helping me,,,,,,, Homer is the type of dog you either love or shoot!!! He is ALWAYS into something and under foot.He creates havoc at the worse times possible and will eat ANYTHING! When people say "Oh my dog eats anything" I laugh. Homer has feasted on worms,a carton of menthol cigarettes, the bottom of a fresh pine apple,a whole ball of garlic,2lbs of bakers chocolate, ALL of the Halloween candy,a bag of bird seed, all of the dish dowels have holes in them, pot holders,a loaf of rye, white,Italian breads,a bunch of bananas, bubble gum packs,a box of pancake batter,,,,,, I can keep going on and on but I think I can honestly say he eats ANYTHING,,,although his taste for yellow jackets and wasps has changed a bit! lol He'll also down the occasional bird flying too low and devour a nest or 2 for desert! He also does his share of raiding pocket books left on the floor along with coat pockets containing the "slightest" scent of foodstuffs.
Get the picture? LOL Thanks all,,,
