Hey, John, maybe you should state the precision required, as your mileage includes a decimal. Do you want them to guess that decimal, too?

Well as not only the guesses but also the pages begin to pile up in this contest, I thought I might remind you my first (and only, so far) hint about the mileage.
After some of you made the following guesses... 1457; 1638; 1446; 1296; 1428; 1645; 1493; 1672; 1580; 1500; 1694; 1940; 1833; 1454; 1609; 1120; 1655
...I gave you this hint, "valid for MOST of you: Europe is a small continent, but not THAT small"
And, watching your struggle, I will ease the task with the hope that John will not be upset: you will only have to guess the entire miles, not the decimal. And, to ease it even more, there will be two possible correct mileages, as the decimal figure is 5, thus equally distanced by the upper and lower entire miles. So, the first guess, no matter it would be below or above the exact mileage by .5 miles, will be the winner.
I hope I was clear. As an example, if we would pretend 1111.5 is the exact mileage, any of the answers 1111 and 1112 would be correct.
Keep guessing, Adrian

Wow, I just googled the Donau Radweg and found out it is The Danube Bike Trail. It runs along both sides of the Danube River and through 9 countries.

Ok, I have a huge question! I googled the mileage from Calais to Bucharest and in MILES, it was under 1600 but are we supposed to guess KILOMETERS?
Ok, I will guess 2200 KM

Keep it in miles, Sheri!
And folks, don't forget that John wasn't able to take on highways, etc.
Tony, the days were guessed previously, by Jo-Naturenut. There were 47 days.
