I've been working so hard the last few days on everyone else's year end books, that I just had to get away and seal myself off in the garage tonight. Been working on a dremel cab for the last couple of hours and I'm getting ready to polish. I like this one and thought I would wrap it later tonight or tomorrow... problem is... I can't figure out which end should be the top? What do you guys think? And also... what color wire do you think would make it pop? I have bronze, silver plated, and gold plated. ? ? Thanks for your input! ~Krystee

Definately Photo 2. It hides the small fracture at the tip visible in Photo 1. Gold wire should work nicely with the natural gold tones of your cab.

Oh, yeah! It's gorgeous, and I agree - photo # 2, and definitely gold wire!

I agree that gold wire should be used but IMO you should go with photo #1 and just put a little artistic wire bending at the top to conceal the tiny fracture.

To me the darker (visually "heavier") end should go down unless you are trying to give the sense of disruption or unbalance in your piece by going against the usual. I vote for photo 1 and by using the design of the wire wrapping to conceal the minor chip in the crystalline portion of the cab. You are going to have to conceal it regardless of which end is up. Just my perjudices showing. Bob

Wow, see my dillema?
I am checking in, partially done with polishing, re-doing a bit to get it right. Burrs and diamond paste are a bugger. they never produce what you want in the time frame you want....
So, I'm still at a loss as I was to begin with. I am 2 for 2 right now. However, it is confirmed that I will be doing gold wire.
I like what Bob said about putting the "heavy" side down, that is the way I think. But my husband and oldest son disagreed. Looking at the pictures, #2 looks really nice. Gosh, I just don't know. Will wait on a few more responses before making up my mind!

I like #1...I think for me the "heavier side down" issue makes the top look like sky and the bottom like earth... more natural FWIW

I am going for #1 as well. You can conceal the little fracture at the top with your wire & it will also make for a more secure situation for that little fracture. It will be at the top, concealed & more secure should it be dropped or bumped because you can use your wire to give it some protection.

I will throw my vote in for #1, but either way, that is a very nice piece!

I really like #2 best but no matter which way you turn it, it will be beautiful because it is just that great of a stone! You did a wonderful job on it! Fran

Perhaps, the pattern of the agate waves can give a clue? I lean towards the first pix being the top Pretty neat-- either way Ed

I think number one. You say that it's the one you like so go with your gut and you can't do wrong.

My opinion is only going to make matters worse...LOL I like #1 if you're using only gold wire, but I think it might look very nice with gold overall and silver accent wrapped around the fracture and a little extra pointing down as in #2...I don't know how to actually do that, but it's what popped into my head. That's a gorgeous cab Krystee. After looking at the pix several times, I think #1 looks better.
As far as polishing, do you have a drill press available? I made a polishing pad to use in a drill press, and thats all I use on my cabs. If you'd like info, I'd be glad to share.

I buy my Connundrum at the Rock Shed ROFL Curt!!! Chuck, I'm not sure I'm ready yet to experiment with two different color wires. But someday I will try it! As far as polishing, do you have a drill press available? I made a polishing pad to use in a drill press, and thats all I use on my cabs. If you'd like info, I'd be glad to share. Nate, I don't have a drill press but WOULD DEFINITELY like you to share your method. Outside in the old workshop there are some machines that used to be used in window and door manufacturing. Sorry if I sound really naive but I have no idea what most of these machines are and have never used them either. I think this is a lathe but it appears to have a drill press of some sort on it. Would something like this work? ~Krystee

Oops, forgot to mention... I think I will go with my original thought of number 1. After staring at the stone for quite some time, I think covering the fracture with wire flowing in the same direction of the bands would look pretty good. The advice came to 9 votes for #1 and 4 votes for #2. Wish me luck! ~K
