Hallo everybody, newbie on the blog. Based in Cape Town, South Africa- a bit of a time difference ;D. Want to start with Sodalite as I have a 65 kg chunk of it. I do not know how, but a friend of mine will cut 2 slabs off it for me. I will send to anyone interested. Royal blue, blah blah blah- the proof is in the pudding ;D ;D. All i know is it is harder than the sodalite you get from Brazil.

Thanks Chromenut, I have been on internet for two days trying to find a decent website and this looks like the one. I have had a passion for gemstones since I picked up my first agate in Namibia where I was born and bred , at the age of 12. Now I want to start doing something about it. A bit of a bucket list of this you want to do with your life. Unfortunately you guys are a long way away and so is the tools required to do so. It seems everything I need is in America LOL.

Well, come on over! I'll introduce you to several Namibian friends of mine, one claims to have purchased his village for his wife, and their wedding pictures were hysterical! I mean it was the event of the year in his village, they were dressed up as King and Queen, was a beautiful ceremony, too far away for me to have attended but I surely would have liked to. It seemed that everyone in the village had an absolutely fantastic time. His name is Tony Okpara, he's like a long lost brother to me.
My other close friend, Joe Nwankwo, he and his wife own a technical staffing agency in California, I've known him for about 24 years now, the politest man I've ever met. I always try to upset him and tease him, but he's as stable as the rock of Gibralter, nothing moves that guy!
Nice to meet someone else in Namibia, my name is Robin Huggins, the two gents I mention above we met some 24 years ago when we were all working for a Swedish company, Ericsson.
Anyway, very nice to meet you!

Robin, I would like to thank you for your hospitality. E-mail me an address and I will send you some of the Sodalite I have. I know nothing of tumbling but if you tell the size and amount of Sodalite you tumble at any given time, I would like to see if I can get it cut and then send. The average size of the other pieces vary from 1/2 a kilo to 25 kilo's. I do not know what it costs to send and you having made more than 1600 posts on this website can vouch for me. The gem industry, even amateurs, have always been a very secluded amount of people. All I know is it is from Namibia and it is harder than the Sodalite you get from Brazil. The next time you see a Hyundai add and the blue in that, this sodalite is a lot more royal blue and might even look black.

Just sent you an email. Thanks for the offer!!! If it's large enough, would like to shape and polish a few cabs from it. I'll send you my address, let me know what the cost is, would be proud to do some work on that!!

Hallo Robin, the chunk I have weights 65 kilo's. I am in the process of having two slabs cut off it. What thickness would you like as it will be a slab. You will be able to cut it smaller in order for you to work with. I have no idea as to what postage will cost. I have NEVER sent anything to the America's. LOL. I can get more of it, the guy I bought my piece from has about 600 kilo's available. I will try to send you about 1 kilo. I will also make sure that the calcite white is minimal. Namibian Sodalite has a fair amount of calcite lines in them. Some people like it, I do not. If you can cut the Sodalite yourself I will send you larger chunk depending on the costs. Regards Jaco Jacobs.

Welcome, jaco, I am at the other end of the US. We don't grow rocks here in the Florida Keys where coral rock abounds. Can't do a darn thing with it, though! You will find this a great place to learn all about tumbling, cabbing & practically anything having to do with rocks.

Hallo everybody, I have been away wasting time the last couple of hours earning cash flow as I will need a lot of it, comparing Rand - Dollar exchange rates. I will post some photo's of the sodalite I have. I need to know how to post the photo's after I have edited the size to no more than 1024 kb. Hope there are people awake in the America's, this time of the morning.

Is there anybody out there who has an idea as to the costs involved in getting a 44 gallon drum of sodalite out to the America's. It will probably weight 500 kilo's.

Hallo Rock'nRollers, I have sent some photo's to chromenut requesting him to load them for me, as I do not know how to do this. Hopefully I can get them up on your site so that everybody can give me a verdict on how to go about making this useful in one way or another. Regards and have fun. Jaco
