He seemed like an honest seller initially. several people have reported receiving their items from him. Full disclosure, I purchased turquoise from him, received it and decided it wasn't up to snuff so I sent it back. He received it and was going to work out an exchange for fire agate. he strung me a long for several weeks and now I can't reach him at all. I don't know...maybe he's on a cruise or something...

If you paid via paypal, I would go ahead and file a dispute. You have a limited window of time. Make sure you include any email communications with him that you have copies of....

I got my purchase from him and it was the fire agates, there as shown, good material.
maybe he has a personal issue that is taking his time from the business.
you have his address from what he sent you, just do a people search with it for a phone number

Oh no... I hate hearing this. I was skeptical at first also. But by the time I could get the gist of the situation (he thought grandfather was a member and passed away, didn't know Grandpa's online ID, was selling Grandpa's rock off), people were already buying his stuff. Heard a couple good reviews and felt better and then he contacted me about a trade. I traded him a pair of copper wire earrings for his girlfriend with a special son, for some amethyst. The amethyst was great and Dougy also included a few beautiful crystal specimens that I didn't expect.
Hope he shows up soon and makes things right. Sorry you're going through this.
Here's a lesson for all of us: ALWAYS, ALWAYS GET TO KNOW A MEMBER HERE BEFORE BUYING FROM THEM. Jo

It's been to long for me to file a claim with paypal unfortunately...I've already tried. I'm still not convinced that I've been scammed though, I think perhaps Dougy is just out of town or something...I'm going to see if I can track down his phone number.

To be honest with you I was kinda iffy when he first popped up too. But I also have dealt with him on some rough. I felt I got a decent deal with him. Hopefully he is just on vacation or God forbid that he got in some sort of accident. Hopefully you get a hold of him and work things out.

I did a deal with him on his polished agates and they arrived before expected and packed very well. I made an offer to buy some additional pieces and he gave me a counter that I rejected. He than emailed me saying that he was in financial need so I made an additional offer for a lower price. A while later he contacted me and was willing but I had a bad feeling about him by that time. I hope that you used pay pal and that you file a dispute before it is to late.

Sounds like the same thing that happened with that joemojave guy. Did a few deals with good results, then some folks got ripped off - if I remember right.

Dougy was pretty desperate to sell his stones. I made a deal for some Dino Bone, quite a bit cheaper than he had posted on the site and he sent that as well as a much bigger chunk of Dino bone and two other really pretty stones. They all arrived quickly, then it seems no one could reach him. Something was certainly going on in his life. I pray that he is okay and hopefully you will hear from him soon.

I remember that name from another forum. He joined and immediately started trying to sell material. People were suspicious of him, and started asking questions of him. Just as suddenly as he showed up, he also disappeared. He cancelled his membership.

I would appreciate if the story is updated when anyone learns more. Having to compete with folks who steal their merchandise is a HUGE bee in my bonnet. It makes it very, very hard for an honest small seller to compete on eBay or, really, anywhere, when people are stealing from their own employers or friends and then reselling cheaply because they have no financial investment in their material. That has a devastating impact on the honest person's ability to sell. By the way, the receiver of stolen goods has also committed a crime and in theory they are supposed to return the stolen property to the victim. Does anyone ever actually do that? Nobody ever returned any stolen property to me back in the day, and I didn't have the heart to take it to court. I guess the buyers need to examine their own conscience. Most people who receive stolen property seem to feel that they have done nothing wrong so receiving stolen property seems to be one of those perfect crimes -- there's always a reason why the person can justify to themselves that they don't have a moral obligation to return the property. And while in theory they have a legal obligation to do so, they usually don't unless it is taken to court which is impractical for the victim unless there's a TON of money involved.
The point is moot at the moment, since we don't know from whom the material was stolen. Or at least I don't. Seems like court filings are a matter of public record. If this is actually being investigated or if charges have actually been filed, as opposed to some rumors, why not a link to the news story?

Hmm...
What do you want me to add here Peach? I think we've all learned what kind of person Dougy is and a casual reading of this and the other thread will give anyone a good idea of the evidence against him. If a person decides to do business with him after reading all of that, they're an idiot.
For the record, the family whom the material was stolen from says that they harbor no ill will against those victims who purchased the stolen rough and that they consider the stolen material purchased by the victims to be the victims property.
"The owner of the rough does want buyers of the stolen rough to know that as far as they are concerned, the rough is yours as innocent buyers who unkowingly purchased from this previous member. "
If the owners had expressed a desire otherwise for the return of the material, I would gladly do so, even if it meant that I forefit the $300 I have invested in it. I appreciate that they want me to keep it. I have decided to work it up, sell the finished pieces, re-coop my investment and then donate the rest of the proceeds to a local Charity, probably the scholarship fund sponsored by my community rock club. Does that satisfy my "Moral Obligation" in your opinion?
