Hey juzwuz what blades did you use for your super grinder, and did they fit the arbor or did you have to drill them out?

Hey juzwuz what blades did you use for your super grinder, and did they fit the arbor or did you have to drill them out? I bought 6 six inch segmented blades. 3/4" arbor hole fits most arbors.

Hey juzwuz what blades did you use for your super grinder, and did they fit the arbor or did you have to drill them out? I bought a pack of ten 7 1/4" tile saw blades from ebay for $60 shipped. The title was: Planet Diamond 7" Wet Cutting Diamond Tile Blades Pack of 10 Blades I can't remember if it was a 3/4" or 5/8" but they fit my arbor without drilling. I might space them out a little to see if that improves the grinding speed.

Justin some use surplus CD or DVD as spacers. It will be aggressive. Nice!

Heh. I think I'd rather buy the 12lb Lortone tumbler motors, shafts, and pulleys. Should be under $200 for 3.

What is torque/wattage of those motors? Also, what is final RPM?
Has someone made a sphere machine this way?

Unless you plan on turning spheres slightly larger than a marble, I think the Lortone tumbler motors would be way underpowered. Remember, not only are those motors turning the weight of the stone, but the grinding cups as well. Add to that the resistance of grit loaded cups turning against rock under pressure.

They turn 12+ pounds of rock, fifty bucks apiece.
A buddy made a sphere machine out of two drill presses.
Not pretty but it works. Maybe that's the way to go???

It is time for an update on the projects started on this thread. Curios how everyone is doing. Mine is still sitting, waiting to be wired up. Went through 6 months of medical problems. Now it's the wife's turn with a knee replacement. One of these days the whole fam damily will be well enough for me to get back on it.

I'm working on a malachite sphere made from rough I got from rxscram. That should be amazing. If you have problems polishing it up with pads you might try finishing it up on a 3000 soft wheel. Super shines the stone from rxscram. It does not like the velcro pads I use at all even with a really soft touch. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. Jim

The preform is ready but I haven't had time to work on it until this weekend. I'll post some progress pictures. Justin
