Got my expando drum from John today with a cool leather polishing belt that Woody manufactures. I ordered these as my Christmas present from Patrick!
I am TRYING so hard to set this thing up!!!!!
Problem... the little plastic spacers that go in the middle of the drum... can't remember what they're called. Anyway, one is too big and the other is just a tad too small. Am I just supposed to force thread the plastic piece on to make it fit or should I do something else?
This is for a cabmate. Really want to try this out tonight. New toy....
Thanks in advance! ~K

No no ~K ! don't force the bushing! That what there called
The bushing should fit snugly into the expando and slip snugly on to the arbor of the machine
pictures we need pictures
no forcing ! mostly

o maybe I'm just confused you may just be talking about spacers to give the expando some clearance out from the machine you'll probably get e-mail assistance

Sometimes there will be a little build up on the arbor shaft. If you clean it up with scotch brite and a light oil it might help.
Oh yeah and when you put the expando on make sure the rotation direction is correct.

Krystee:
The bushing may be a tight fit going over the threads on the shaft, but a good fit on the shaft if, the threads were rolled, and versus being cut. If so, you may be able to carefully screw the bushing on.
Now you have leather, and diamond paste, you are going to hurt our eyes with your polish!!!

Lee, got the rotation right... cleaned up the shaft but didn't try oil. It won't go on though.... I could thread it by hand but don't know if that will mess up everything? Gosh I feel like the biggest novice ever here.... I can do Ameritool with my eyes closed... this is so foreign to me, yet.... I want to get this working more than anything!!!

sounds like great advice above
little of that silicone spray a scotch brite honing on the arbor and that bushing should slip on check the inside edges in of the bushing also for burrs that might prevent slipping on snugly
anyway goal is slip the bushing on the arbor first then slip the expando onto the bushing i would think
those other parts are called collets bushing, spacer, collets

Krystee, like Lee said, try cleaning the arbor shaft first. You could turn your machine on without a wheel or nut and washer on that end, and use a wire brush on the threads while it's running. If the adapter still won't slide on, Put a little sand paper around a dop stick and turn it inside the adapter a few twists. You may need to enlarge it just a little bit. But don't remove too much material. When you put the expando on, looking at the wheel from the outside end, the slots want to face out and down. If you put the wheel on backwards, you'll soon find out. The belt will get loose instead of tight. In the pic you posted, take the wheel out of your hand and turn it over. That's the way the slots want to face. Don

well if you do twist that bushing on with pliers put a rag over the outside of the bushing first then use the pliers to twist the bushing on that way you won't mar the outside of that bushing might be a last ditch solution....

Don, I saved googled pics of the proper way to set it up. From my understanding.... The upper most part (after installed) should be facing out and the lowest part should be facing you. Is that right or wrong??? Golly I'm confused..... feel like I'm starting all over again

Ed, You crack me up!!!!!!!
Yes, Woody is manufacturing the leather belts. To my knowledge though..... John at JSgems is the only one commissioned to sell them!
Wish I could tell you how awesome they are... I've heard from everyone that this is the BOMB... but.... I have got to get this working first! Can't WAIT!!!!! I'm dreaming of those shines on frustrating material that I've never been able to achieve......

I was trying to video it I managed to get it on and set up. Here is what it looks like: Here it is in action. Question though, when first turned on and when turning it off it seems to wobble a little bit. While it's running though the wobble seems to disappear. Is that normal?

The wobble could be the belt being just slightly off on some parts of the wheel and making it appear as if there is a wobble...like driving behind a car that has a hub cap coming off... I hope that is what it is. Scott
