Found some amazing stuff at Stillwell last year ( and Woodward ranch, lots of red plume if you are willing to walk for it) Stillwell is by no means hunted out, huge area to look through and there is a couple that is first on my list.

Can't go this year. Mark and Jeri, follow the power poles. There are LOTS of area that hasn't been picked over up there. It is rough going, though. I would go about 3 poles farther than I did the last time. Lot af larger agates. Ken

40.00 dollars to tent camp for 2 people SAY WHAT . I just copied the rates from the WWR website. Unfortunately, their rates go up every year. That's why we're staying at Stillwell. This annual pilgrimage started in 2007 as the WWR Blitz. I'm told that about 20 people attended. Sadly the numbers have dwindled over the years. I'm not sure, but I think all the Blitz threads are still accessible. This will be my 3rd trip. 2010 was the 4th Annual WWR Blitz. (I didn't go to the first 3.) The 7 of us stayed the whole week at WWR. Even though the weather was pretty cold, I loved it! (Except for the restroom/shower.) 2011 was different. We started with 6 people and stayed 2 nights at WWR. Then 2 people went home and the remaining 4 camped for 2 nights at Stillwell. In my opinion, it's a much nicer place to camp. But there was too much rockhounding time 'wasted' on driving, setting up camp & then tearing down. (WWR & Stillwell are about 1.5 hrs apart.) So Spike and I decided to make Stillwell our home base this year. We really can't wait to explore some more! ;D Of course we'll do a day trip to WWR too. ALL rockhounds are welcome to join the adventure! The more the merrier! Later, jeri

I got a kitchen pass this year! Yippee! I'll be coming alone---Jeri and Spike can I hang out with you? I'm pretty easy to get along with. I'd offer to pick up Spike on my way through Wichita, but I'll probably be a day or two behind you. There's a woman who manages a hotel in Alpine who arranges trips to other ranches; we may want to look her up for plume agate. I think it was kind of spendy, though. I got some great flower garden agate (2nd and last pics) while I was there. Looks like you did, too! Have you cut it, yet? It's phenomenal. Chuck

darstcreek77, bummer...
Chuck, sure hope you make it! I'll be picking up Spike, so no need to worry about that... We like hanging with people whether we're hounding or eating or... (Kinda draw the line at sharing the tent though.)

LOL, Jeri. I'm pretty selective on who I share a tent with, too!
Looking at the night time lows, I may have to get a dog! LOL

I have 2 dogs that I could loan you... A husky mix and a schauzer mix... Wasn't planning on bringing them, but if you're willing to look after them... LOL We'll be paying $19 for water & ELECTRIC... Mostly so we can heat our tent. BTW, that area of Texas has had a fire ban for several years... No campfires. Later, jeri

Well it LOOKS LIKE I AM GOING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!! Rock Hobbit: The last I heard from Dan was that he'd know more "when the dust settles"... So who knows? When it gets closer to the trip and we have a firm count, we'll form a loose plan for group meals, what to do on what days, etc. All of it subject to change on a daily basis of course! LOL Later, jeri

Sheri, it doesn't sound like he will but will be calling him the next couple of days. Stillwell was amazing with the different rock I found there, red plume and fire agate even.
I have a "instant canopy" I will be bringing, something that can be put up in a min or two. So we can use it in the field as a base and just off the tent if needed.
For everyone else, Sheri, Jeri and I can guide you to the red plume on WWR. There is a new wrinkle, Needle peak is back open for hunting. This is a new thing and I have some info but not all I need. I need to talk to the guide to make sure he can take me to the back side, there is pom pom agate littered there (Sheri remember where I stayed when ya'll went on? That area was scattered with it) That trip is extra, $100 each but no min people to go or will be charged for the rock you find. IF we can go to the back side (owned only by WWR and not hunted out, Trey went there like three times only, then the whole trip would be worth only that.) Trips are made to the front (East)side almost daily from what I hear but the back side is virgin.
If the guide can get us there I will do my best to talk him into it even if I have to go alone now that I know what to pick up.
The trip will be a good time, promise
Spike

That's good news Spike! I had a piece or two of pom pom. I found it very pretty, but hard to work. It wanted to fall apart during cabbing. Maybe it was just bad luck? I thought Mel had made similar comments, though. All the same, I'd be up to going to Needle Peak.
I'm looking forward to the trip!
